Would not be happy. Add a Shaqiri and a top class striker and im getting happier. And wouldnt bother with Lovren for 20 million. No t when we have Wisdom and Illori who are going to step up to the plate this year in a massive way. (Hoping.)
I'm just thinking of the 15% i believe it is we will collect, obviously if you lads can up your price even better
Think we would be mad to get rid of Agger and Lucas in the same season they are two of the cornerstones of our squad (not mecessarily team) We have to have experience on the squad. Think we need Borini to stay also, he puts in a shift and it is vital for the new players coming in to see the level of effort expected. Looking forward to seeing Suso this year. Think he will have a massive impact in preseason which will secure his stay at the club.
Seems everyone agrees that it would be a poor summer for us. Is everyone's problem the fact we won't be spending money (and only using the Suarez transfer fee), the fact we won't be signing any 'world class' players or that we won't be improving on any position in the squad?
All three. We finished 2nd last season and at the very least should be looking to maintain that (and at the very least achieve CL football again). With the extra games we're going to need a bigger squad, which is also going to be needed to gain 4th or above anyway, this means spending money to get the quality needed to take us to the next level. We don't want to be relying on too many youngsters to make up the squad, a few who are ready to make the step up perhaps. World Class players; losing Suarez means needing to replace him with one or two players of a similar standard. With the money we receive for him we should be able to find at least two who can go on to be as good as, if not better, than Suarez. The money gained from his sale should be almost entirely used to get his replacement(s). This would also go part of the way to strengthening the squad. Its clear that we've been poor/weak in certain areas, namely the fullbacks and Central mid. We addressed the Midfield alittle, but the desperate place we need replacements is fullback and bar a failed bid nothing yet. I'd hope we'd address each of those issues by the start of the season. The listed players seem to show either a lack of ambition to get World Class players, over spending on Prem players and only half addressing the problems. There have also been alot of 'ones for the future' in our recent transfer dealing, which is ok if they make it, but at the same time we need the players for now.
Oh, bloody hell guys. The season hasn't started yet and already we're crap? Suarez hasn't even gone yet and already we're complaining about how we've spent the money we haven't got. There's still 2 months to go in the transfer window. Give it time.
Think its the reported targets, granted most of the reports are complete BS, but the genuine ones don't fill people with ambition. Also fear of losing a player who makes a massive difference worries people, especially if it all goes pear shape and we end up going backwards. But yes, I shall reserve final judgement till the end of the window.
Can't believe people are talking about players we have been linked with in the transfer rumour thread
So you'd be happy to lose Suarez and gain Lallana, Can and possibly another forward player, looking like Shaquiri at the moment? No one's saying they're crap. But plenty are questioning if they're good enough to move us up another level. I like Lallana a lot, but he's nowhere close to replacing Suarez in the squad. We could play both Can and Lallana (12 players) and still not match his influence on the team. They're just not good enough quality for CL/PL challengers and that's the worry. If you're in the CL and you've got (probably) 70mill lying around, you need to buy someone good.
We've been linked to hundreds of players and none have really seemed of the right caliber for us. Apart from Sanchez. And now the echo saying he definitely prefers ****ty arsenal
Up until the moment the deal is done that is what he would say anyway. "Oh there's a £80m deal in the balance, well don't worry about sweetening the deal for me since I prefer Liverpool anyway and my agent is bored of money now"
Shocking. Show me where I said that and I'll be happy to withdraw it. What I said was that there's a long way to go and we don't know what will happen yet, so why assume the worst? You're making out that that list is the final (or close to) sum of our transfer ambitions, and I'm suggesting that it's too early to say that. As for replacing Suarez, well - you just can't. Regardless of what the wums say, he has been one of the top three in the world recently and we've no chance of getting anywhere near the other two. He can't be replaced like-for-like, so we have to reorganise. I think the bottom line is that I like to enjoy my football, and am fascinated with all the variables. I'm looking forward to seeing what happens, and don't quite understand why there seems to be so much pessimism. Maybe pessimism's a bit strong, but impatience, certainly. There's a long way to go yet. In answer to your last sentence- perhaps we will, but we haven't got the money yet. Maybe we should go to Wonga for a payday loan.
Then please go and find where people have said we're crap. Works two ways. According to you, we think Liverpool will be crap because of our signings but no one's said that. Hence, I replied with a tongue in cheek comment about you being happy with our current player links. Point is, from who we've signed so far and who we're linked with so far, we have every right to be pessimistic about the season because they are nowhere close to replacing Suarez. That's all that's been said and I think, as paying fans, we have every right to say so if that's what we think. Incidentally, no one's complaining about how we've spend the 'suarez money' because we haven't yet. It's the other money which was available regardless of if he stayed or left which has, effectively, just bulked the squad without improving the XI. Lallana, Lambert and Can are good players. Nothing special and not really going to help us push on another level.
I paraphrased, of course. Nobody actually used the word crap,( and I was being tongue-in-cheek also) but you only need to go to the top of the page to see the sequence of rather negative posts that I was referring to. In fairness to the rest of you, the question was only would you be happy if this was the extent of our transfer dealings for the summer. In fairness to me, I was only pointing out that it's much to early to say. If it was all the business we managed to do, then I wouldn't be too happy about it either, but let's at least wait and see what happens with the Suarez saga and how we go about spending and reorganising. Tbh, there are almost as many opinions on who we should buy as there are posters, so whatever happens there'll no doubt be plenty who are disappointed. Anyway, my original post was intended to be a light-hearted dig at the negative turn to the thread and I never expected anyone to take umbrage so readily, so I'll leave it here.
