Wembley play-off hero Bobby Zamora has agreed a new one-year deal to stay at QPR.

The 33-year-old striker will sign a new one-year contract at Loftus Road and play a part in their forthcoming Premier League season under Harry Redknapp.

It was Zamora's winning goal against Derby in May which secured Rangers' promotion which could be worth around £134million for the club.

Zamora's signature will be a relief to Redknapp who lost 11 players in the summer either out of contract or loaners returning to their parent clubs.

He has also become frustrated that the club have failed to sign off a deal for former England defender Rio Ferdinand with owner Tony Fernandes wanting younger signings.

QPR still have an interest in signing Spurs midfielder Lewis Holtby who was on loan at Fulham last season.

He will get a great reception when his name is read out on Saturday 16 August, but realistically it will be as one of the substitutes.

The thing is, his introduction onto the field of play will bring hope and expectation; now who thought we'd be saying that a few months ago?!

He probably hasn't got 90 minutes in him, but as you say can be an impact sub. If we are losing and the crowd has gone flat, bringing on Zamora will spark us into song, and let's face it we all want to celebrate his winner at Wembley again.

Is that a good enough reason for a new contract, hell yes.
 
More important is the possibility of getting Holtby!

I know being interested is a long, long way from signing him but he would be a great capture.
 
Best news so far this summer, if true. If he stays fit I'll always think we can get a goal with him ready to come in off the bench

Fair point, but as we will probably only play one striker in most matches, but will (hopefully) have 4 in the 25 man squad, I'd say yes. I'm sure if we are struggling Redknapp will have no hesitation turning to one of the under 21 players :emoticon-0110-tongu
 
I think its a mistake, he will probably go back to early season form of being crap rather than a super sub but it does mean one less forward to bring in, hopefully he took a big pay cut.

As an addition to the playing staff alone, this is an awful decision.
The only positive I can see is that perhaps it tells the rest of the squad "if you do good things for us, you'll be rewarded". Keeps them feeling 'looked after' by the club.
 
Pleased with this news. I think it is sensible provided the wages are right. It would be a bad signal to others if the guy that got us promoted wasn't even offered a new contract. Big pay cut me thinks.

At least its a year, wed have given him 2-3 years in previous seasons.
 
Time will tell if it's a mistake or not. All I would say is he single handedly got us into the final with some great contributions v Wigan and then of course that goal. As Flyer says it is only a year and symbolically for the rest of the squad I think it is good. The opposite of how letting him go would have been negatively spun by the qpr-hating media.
 
I just realised its the fail, there's a good chance it may be total bollocks but sadly they get more right with us compared to everything else.
 
I'm happy with this. If it was not for that goal we would have most likley been beaten in extra time and it's only one year!
