Hull City’s Senegalese defender Abdoulaye Diagne Faye has revealed that Steve Bruce deliberately relegated him to the bench in order to field his son Alex Bruce.

Faye whose contract with City ended this summer spent majority of last season warming the bench.

“I say it loudly, coach Steve Bruce dismissed me in favour of his son Alex Bruce. This was a choice that was not explained and was not justified. I always played the holder role wherever I went in England,” Faye told Footafrique.

According to him: “This situation was so bad that even his team-mates protested whenever they saw him on the bench,” nevertheless, he accepted it and each time complied with “the decision of the coach who is the boss.”

He added: “My contract has expired and I am a free agent now. But the fact remains, I am currently negotiating with a good English club D2 … because even at 35, I wish to play even up to two years in the English Premier League before hanging my boots.”

    Well there we have it.

    Bruce out.

    And Bruce out.

I knew he was a nepotistic ****. And Faye has every right to be angry, he's twice the player of Alex.

    Shameful and disgusting.

Bruce's performances in the FA cup and against Suarez make it fully justifiable.

Earlier in the season he was ahead of Bruce in the pecking order, started at Everton away when Chester first got injured if I recall correctly. Last time he played was Brighton away I believe, and he got absolutely done for pace a few times. I'm pretty sure that game made Bruce's mind up not to play him again.

I'll go along with that. Bruce had an excellent game and I very much doubt Faye could have excelled him on the day.

I like Faye, but maybe it's best just move on and not take a parting swipe.

I reckon towards the end his lack of mobility for an ageing centre back probably was second to Bruce Jr.

Bit of a shame he's had a pop, but there you are.

Faye is a good defender, he scored some important goals for us and was a rock at the back. He lacks pace though, we couldn't afford to play slow defenders against Premier League opposition, he sounds quite bitter. Bruce was really good for us during our first season back in the Premier League and deserved his place in the team.

Have to admit I had been saying all season how it was criminal how Bruce was getting the nod ahead of Faye. Especially after Faye's heroics in the promotion season.

I would never disagree with anything Steve Bruce does or how he goes about his job but it starts to take the piss when he'll even play Alex in midfield just to accommodate him.

I appreciate Alex Bruce's effort and commitment in particular his performances against the likes of Liverpool, Manchester United and in the FA Cup final but in my opinion Faye is a better player and with any other manager in charge would have been picked ahead of Alex Bruce.

Well, on quite a few occasions this season I would have preferred to see Faye on the pitch than Bruce, but, assuming he has actually said all these things, I'm glad he's no longer here.

What is everyones obsession and clamour for pace it's not the be all and end all for a professional footballer. Playing in the middle of back three doesn't require Usain Bolt like speed just good aerial and reading skills with the ability to pass the ball out.

Faye has every right to be angry.

He means the middle of the back three. As he also states where I always played, as that was basically HIS place last season.

Against Brighton he was caught out completely by their fast attackers. I'm not getting into a Football Manager debate about which positions need pace or whatever but it's a fact that he was beaten several times by pace in that game and we were almost knocked out in the 5th round thanks to it. Bruce never played him again after that.

That's a myth. He started off the promotion season as first choice but later on in the season Bruce and McShane both started getting more and more game time and Faye got less and less, until the last couple of weeks when Hobbs got injured and we needed him again.

Faye got old, everyone does. It just sounds like sour grapes to me and should keep his mouth shut. Didn't he only get a contract extension after exceeding an amount of games? That wouldn't have been the case had our other centre backs stayed fit. He is deluded if he thinks he can still do a job in the premier league. We signed him in the championship after west ham decided he wasn't good enough 2 years ago.

I think it's time for one of the Bruce's to pack his bags.

Yes he did get caught out but what I'm saying is that these things would never of happened had he been playing in the middle of the back three. In the appearances he made last season I don't think he played in his favoured position in a back three once.

I liked Faye, but the fact that he is now in talks with a D2 club tells you all you need to know about his current level. Your comments tell us all we need to know about your judgement.

This smells of a convenient excuse why he wasn't picked more often, just to give interested clubs the idea that it wasn't to do with his playing ability.
