As long as it's unachievable the dream will never die.

Sotonist, I think you could be hitting the nail here. I wonder if NC promised wages to match and was pushing for this with KL and this coupled with the lesser control, caused the split.

Ha ha. Yes, I signed up because Lawroe promised old has bed a and big names with trophies. He then got us relegated and I was 4. Still true to his word, we won the FA Cuo and the three years later were back at Wembley for the league Cup final. I think it all went wrong from there. If we'd win we'd have gone on to dominate the world!

Or perhaps he was already inflating wages with the rumours bonuses?

yes, bonuses might have been ad-hoc rather than contractual or formal, and he might have been using them to disguise what the players were really costing.

Colombia left-back Pablo Armero is keen to secure a move to the Premier League, with sources telling ESPN FC that Southampton and Arsenal are among his potential suitors.

Hope Rickie's dream move was worth all this, but just imagine if we soon find, that Brendon just got him on board to lube up the other deals. Nothing would surprise me anymore.

The bit that really makes me laugh about "the dream is dead," is that the players seem to forget one very important thing. I never saw NC on the pitch in the kit. That was the players. If they wanted the dream, they presumably could have delivered it themselves... 8th place, two or three additions and hey presto, a step closer to the dream. No, the greedy bastards see the opportunity has been created to double or treble their money. Unless the new board sat them down and said, "three of you will be sold because we don't want to continue our excellent progress," then they had the dream in their hands.

Cut the crap lads, you sold the dream down the river to feather your own nests.

    Goodbye.

Until we visit Anfield in mid August everything is just an assumption

Are we better off than we were in May? No
Are better off than we were at the start of 2012? Yes

In the annuals of Southampton History 2009-2014 - The Markus/Cortese era will be looked upon with great fondness

But the Cortese era didn't break new ground, this team didn't achieve anything special, they didn't win a major trophy, they didn't finish 2nd in the league or lead the league for months, they didn't even reach Europe. In reality we're back to where we were 11 years ago.

What Cortese & the players did for the last five years is bring back pride to this football club, entertained us and gave us the platform and the foundation to actually break new ground. To get ourselves back to a place where we can threaten the elite of English football.

Don't be like twatbeard and give up on the club because a couple of players have left. Get back on the horse and get behind a new era at Southampton. Because this team is going to do it and not just talk about it.

Looked good in his few performances for West Ham. It was a constant source of bemusement for their fans that he wasn't getting in the team more.

Actually I'd say we definitely have broken new ground thanks to Markus and Nic. We may not have won any trophies or finished higher than 8th, but look at our finances.

The dream isn't dead. It's just asleep.

So much conjecture here. If we spunk 70m, 90m on new players this summer, get the training centre all finished and continue with Ron ****ing Koeman as our manager is that showing a lack of commitment? A lack of ambition? I'm not going to shout down anyone who wishes to claim that it's all a big work and the club will be up for sale before we know it. However, there is a lot of evidence to the contrary, and we are in a situation here where we are all making a lot of our own assumptions. A lot of the usual sources have been correct and incorrect on multiple occasions since Cortese left. All we can do is wait.

The company for which I work has recruited a number of younger people, particularly those from the Public Sector. Their terms and conditions are significantly worse that mine and the older lags amongst my colleagues.
Previously, when someone threatened to join a competitor, the firm would try hard to persuade them to stay and very often increase terms and conditions to retain them. That has stopped and I have seen some highly rated people leave.
Are the new Grads any good? Well, some are and some not, but if it doesn't work out with someone, they can always be replaced.
My company car now stands out at meetings amongst the more modest vehicles around it. I have no doubt that should I quit, I would be replaced with a "lower maintenance" type.
Maybe this is the conclusion which Saints management have come to. They didn't want our top players to leave but if the player doesn't want to play for us, it's better to move them on. If other teams will pay twice the price of a replacement, and they can keep a lid on wages despite our lofty league position, then sobeit. The Academy is full of skilled players on small wages. This was always part of the Southampton Way, and although the big teams are happy to run at vast deficits and pay ridiculous wages, we aren't playing.
