de Jong is a very decent player, but £6million is about right, he's good in several positions but doesn't excel in any. His best position is CM, and it looks to me like this is the 'Cabaye replacement'. He's not in the same league as Cabaye, and he never will be. It IS a very good signing though, no question.
Not sure what you'd expect him to say really, he was asked what the aims were and given that we were top half pretty much all last season he can't just say "well avoid relegation" or "tread water". It's unrealistic but many ambitions are. I don't think I've seen any Newcastle fans saying anything higher than about 7th or 8th for next season and most I've seen are suggesting 8-14th, though do feel free to labour the deluded tag despite this - I'm sure you'll find someone who thinks we can win the league somewhere. Siem is a better signing than we were expecting. That's not to say he's amazing, just that we were expecting Geoff the shelf-stacker from Shildon. We are still ****ed if we don't buy a striker, I'm awaiting the moment I see "Danny Graham welcomed home"...
Was only 6 million because he only had twelve months on his contract. His injury record last season wasn't great so that is a concern. It's a wait and see from me, clearly a talented player but depends if he'll adapt to the league. Have to laugh at Terry, slates us on every thread on this board just to get in with you lot On a final note I've not come across a single fan that thinks we're two players away from champions league, 95% of our fans that I've come across think top ten is the target again and rightly so.
If he stays injury free then you've got a good player Tel doesn't need to slate you lot to get in with us. Tel is a Don.
I really admired the mags under Keegan. He did a really good job. I mean let's face it, it's not easy to blow three games in hand & a 12 point lead is it? lol
He's a good player, I think I mentioned him as a target for us before last season, but whoever said signing him & Lacazette makes you stronger than with Cabaye is miles off. Cabaye was the heartbeat of the team, and neither of these lads will have anywhere near his individual impact. Lacazette is potentially very good, but Cabaye made everything tick, de Jong won't, Lacazette won't. You'll finish in a similar position to last year I'd imagine but without the points cushion.
Doubt we'll get Lacazette, his agent said today he'll only leave for a club in the champions league unfortunately. Looks like Debuchy is off too so still plenty of work for us to do this window. I'm happy with our business so far, just hope there's more business to be concluded in the coming weeks.
Yeah, I was surprised you got de Jong, I assumed he'd head to Germany, I do rate the lad, he's a good link player, if not a matchwinner. You've got a hell of a lot to do though mate, at least one CB, Debuchy will go so a RB, or maybe a LB if you switched Santon. Then up front, ****ing hell, where to start. A lot of graft to be done, haven't seen you linked with too many either, not realistic ones anyway. Ashley won't leave you that wide open to relegation though, he won't risk the financial losses that would come with that.
It doesn't, but then you're just twisting words aren't you? Marcus actually claimed someone said you need 2 more players to be in the same position before cabaye left. The one I found is worse as it clearly says the two players would make you better, and draws attention to the fact that you were only a few points from the CL when Cabaye was sold. To be better you need to improve on your previous best. Waste of time trying to twist words with me fella. The irony is you've made yourself look daft trying to defend a daft comment you didn't even make in the first place.
You have to laugh at me? Great, enjoy that then, doubt you'll get much more to laugh about any time soon. I don't need to make friends online, if that's why you come on here then fair do's there's nothing wrong with that kid. You could of course be constructive and show me where you disagree, I've tried this type of weird conception before a few times on your board but each time I get met with some ****-witted half-arsed boring rant off one of your resident maggots.
Brilliant, there's about 5 posts on this thread saying we're deluded, I've pointed out that we're really not, not sure how that's made me look daft to be honest.
Kid? Trying to gain the upper hand by patronising me, really? Your team regressed from champions to 7th, your squad is in the worst shape it's been in for 20 years and Van Gaal doesn't have a magic wand. I'd say I'm going to have more to cheer about when it comes to our respective clubs meeting their targets next year. Cheers for your concern though.
