Well, one way or another, we've arrived at the same conclusion.

I can largely agree with this, but ultimately the question is whether the spending truly was out of control, something we might never really know. Katharina certainly seems to have thought so, as evidenced by the end-of-fiscal-year statement. Outside football financial sorts, conversely, thought that the books looked quite good. But without knowing what Cortese was pushing for -- and what they were pushing back on -- it's difficult to say whether Cortese wanted to pursue a route that would've been destabilizing financially, or whether ownership panicked over what was a manageable transfer debt.

Even if not out of control, there may have been the fear that it was snowballing, especially if Nicola wouldn't accept any checks on his actions. The two extremes are dangerous overspending and penny pinching....the answer is probably in the middle (tending towards the former), but the only things that matters is the opinion of the owner.

Am sure it's been asked before, but what's the point in getting excited about any new Saints signings? If they're even a slight success, they'll be off next summer. If they're not, we're stuck with them, a la Dani.

And they'll all retire eventually any way.

If they don't they'll be consumed by the sun when it dies.

Scousehampton fans wetting themselves over our asking price for Lovren...hahaha!
We don't want/need to sell him, they have tapped him up. he wants the big pay day they have offered him and they know the price. Pay up or piss off!

If JayRod wasn't crocked, he'd be poached. Victor's stock is low, as spent most of last season injured. Way better keepers than Boruc available. Clyne yes, though competing for his place here as it is. Davis is just a solid guy.

It won't be like this every season. We've possibly had a number of players stay with us a season longer than they would have without the pie in the sky they were being sold, Liverpool suddenly had a need to build up their squad,Manchester united needed to rebuild, and we lost both our chairman and manager at a very inopportune time, with the manager afforded several months to poison the pot.

So far we've only sold two players that were undeniably first team material going forward.

He's one of the guys that were totally bottling it at the end of the Championship season.

So five good reasons why successful signings don't always leave.

Yeah, I think the finances probably weren't that bad yet but it got to the point where it became unworkable. NC would never compromise on anything, and what he always wanted was the high risk, aggressive, image-oriented, spend-big-to-win-big approach. It was never going to be enough. I have a feeling NC did not think much of "sustainability" as a business approach. You were either keep growing, or you fail.

Sky say we've rejected a bid from Cardiff for Fonte. Surely they're taking the piss?
