Always knew we'd get a Part 6 out of this thread. We'll probably get a part 7, maybe even an 8.

Anyway, Joe, you were quoting and saying...

What we need is to have a good stock of players who can play anywhere in that 3. They're far more useful than out-and-out wingers. Tadic and Bahoui would give us a lot of options for rotation, and allow us to drag opposition defenses around, which is something we need to get better at. I just hope we can get a striker in who is good with the ball at his feet and with his back to goal.

Yes, the main thing is that this club goes back to being a club players love being at, which it clearly was before. Under Cortese. I'm not saying correlation = causation but, you know, the correlation is strong.

We had a very good season where we played some brilliant football at times.

A number of our players played to their full/above their ability (pick whichever you want) because we were doing so well and were on a roll and confidence was high

This made them of interest to some of the biggest teams in the country who started sniffing around and making enquiries

Most footballers would jump at the chance to play for these clubs, our players are no different and wanted to test themselves/the honour/money (choose whichever you want) of playing for these clubs

This is basically how I see it. I think regardless of whether Poch/Cortese stayed the bigger clubs would've come sniffing and even if we had told them to f**k off the players still would've wanted to go

Maybe that was why they thought Mr Motivator was a good man for the job?

My irrelevant view on this is pretty simple - Cortese did a Ridsdale, only instead of attracting players through wages and hoping to break even, he attracted players (and retained players) by a vision of CL. The players realised this was not going to happen when Cortese left and so that group of players now want out. In my view it's inevitable that if you keep saying "Champions League" to players, they're going to want it, and if you can't offer it, they'll go elsewhere. Without his "vision" I imagine a few would have left last summer, and in effect this is like having two years' worth of departures in one.

The benefit of Cortese's approach is that we have not overextended financially. OK, we were in the red but this was effectively cleared by selling one player. To keep "the dream" alive we would have to start offering 6 figure contracts and also spend around100m without selling. A stupid approach that would result in us playing derbies in league 2.

I think we should get rid of the remainder of the clique of wantaways and rebuild. We should be able to bring in a replacement for half of Lovren's fee and move on.

None of the above is meant to justify Lovren's behaviour. Or t**tbeard's.

Now I'm no medical expert, but if your significant other's rectal tissue is "juicy", may I strongly suggest a visit to your local health centre?

Well 20m was apparently rejected that's see if they come back. If we get 25m for him I would say that is a great deal.

Over 5,000 posts and still no signing, this is impressive.

I'm going to guess that we will confirm a signing on Weds/Thurs next week, just before Koeman's first press conference. (Don't let it be Pelle though)

25m was supposedly rejected for Lallana and it still went through after he got pissed off. Think similar will happen with Lovren

So we have been told by the media, that Lovren has handed in a transfer request, and that he will go on strike, if he doesn't get his move.
Did the player actually say that, or is it the press stirring it up again?
Just my point of few, from across the pond
