You only have to read across a few of the Charlton websites to see that RD has quickly developed a passionate & vocal fan base amongst Charlton fans. Whereas you used to have Murray's Praetorian Guard comprising largely of the old sweats from the Valley Party years, replete with beer guts and bad combovers, Duchatelet has quickly achieved a similarly vociferous following. Amazing really, considering that his six month tenure has been a mixed bag to say the least, combining apparent ambition, infrastructure investment, poor signings, and rank disloyalty.

These stormtroopers brook no dissent, and are braying in their intolerance of critics of their thin lipped, *** sucking (....) hero. Can anyone explain this phenomonen :bandit:

They loathed TJ & MS with a vengeance. The old Arab saying "My enemy's enemy is my friend" springs to mind.

I have to admit that I did not like him one bit but some of the actions post-season sees me liking him a little bit more.

His work on the ground/training ground and some of these recent signings make me more positive. That could change once the season starts if these players (Moussa, Vetokele, Buyens) turn out not to be the real deal.

I think describing the support for RD as passionate and vociferous is a little OTT.

At the moment there are some positive steps being taken. A new pitch, seats being replaced, progress on building the new training facilities and, more importantly, what look like decent signings being brought in is always going to lead to an upswing in mood. Added to that is the traditional pre-season excitement that comes from not having regular Charlton matches to watch during the Summer. As HRH says, if we start the season poorly I can imagine the mood turning pretty sharply.

    Nope.

    Have a look at www.charltonlife.co.uk and www.intothevalley.co.uk

Lots of RD supporters singing his praises, and hawking on the sceptics

    I look at them regularly.

I think the responses to those who raise doubts are reasonable. Certainly your description of them as 'stormtroopers' was way over the top.

At least, through all this time of change at the club, one thing has remained constant... Nick Gray playing the victim card.

From now on I will be ignoring your posts.

    Grow up, FFS.

The man who described people he doesn't like as 'stormtroopers', and the man who is now ignoring my posts, is telling me to grow up.

    Brilliant.

For what it's worth, for me the jury is still out on RD. He gambled with selling Yann and Stephens, and only just got away with it, and then decided not to retain the services of the man who had done so well in keeping us up. Against that are the positive steps I mentioned above. I also agree with you in that it would be nice to see more British/English players being brought in, although that doesn't mean for a single second that I am unhappy with us signing Vetokele, Buyens and Moussa. I just felt that you were exaggerating the level of support for RD across the Charlton forums and misrepresenting it. It's a shame you've reacted in such a way.

Vol, you have turned into Gargamel.

Where has all the mirth and wit gone to?

Don't mind the verbal jousting with anyone on here, but our friend with his A level in psyco-babble overstepped the mark with that last comment & he knows it.

Accusing you of playing the victim card is overstepping the mark, is it? Far worse has been said on here than that.

Oh well. I'm off the The Oval to see Surrey stuff Kent (hopefully).

Being such eloquent and frequent posters, but with wholly differing perspectives, you are bound to clash at times. It makes for entertaining reading, but if you feel upset or insulted, then it is best to call a truce or, sadly, ignore one another.

That would be a great shame, though.

Any personals stop here - please keep things on topic.

    Thanks

Re the post - for what it's worth I'm still not overly convinced. I'll see how this summer plays out, but I think he's made some questionable decisions which have been too easily forgotten.

I should be fully supportive of his goal of achieving success through the Academy, but his decision to get rid of JR was such a shocker IMO that he's blotted his copybook too much for my liking.

I am indeed. Sad to leave Oviedo, but glad to be back in Blighty.

How was it out in Brazil?

    From Diego:

@diegopoyet7: @cafc_mad I will post the truth when I sign with a new club. Do not want to jeopardise myself before then.

Will be interesting to see how far he goes. Sadly I think he will still be diplomatic.

Personally I think Roley has a profit over glory philosophy, and I've lived long enough to see where that leads a football club... I believe as soon as we have a team to be proud of, and I actually think he'll get us to that position, he'll dismantle it for monetary gain... The "shop window" theory is being shot down on some forums, but I think it's valid going by events so far...

That philosophy has never given any football club sustained success, but none of this will bother the chest beating "we will succeed against all the odds" supporter...

We could easily fill a book of reasons why fans who support the same club, never agree on anything, and it starts with the fact that not everybody has the same aspirations for the club...

Yes i wonder if Poyet will divulge all, seems like he may be busting to get it out, unless he is just constantly asked and so he has put that out their to give them something to chew on.
