Why i am confident about next season - Team spirit

  1. Some people may think that the heart of the team is getting ripped away from the side.

I agree that we're losing some of the players that gave us heart last season, however i'm not too worried about the squad not having spirit next season.

Stevey Taylor looks like he'll be back long term now, and no other Newcastle United player brings as much passion onto the field as this local gem. When he gets a proper run of games, not just sub appearances or the odd start at random, he's an excellent CB with a lot of heart. He's excellent in attack and defense. The amount of spirit that left with Nolan, will be replaced by a much bigger heart if Taylor has a good season next season. He's only been back briefly, i agree, but he's shown good fitness and strength, and has the whole summer to rest and get prepared for next season. He was brought back too early too many times over the last couple of years. This time it's perfect for us. A good end of season display from him, and time to go through months of preparation and rest to make sure he's juiced up and ready to go.

Also, does anyone not get excited by the fact that Hatem Ben Arfa seems to convince players to come here? It's probably because they get on well with each other or know each other away from the pitch and are friends.

Some people reckon we;re getting rid of the heart and replacing it with "potential talent", but players that wont bring the same passion that the previous ones did. But the fact that alot of these players seem to have a connection with each other should give us a confidence boost for next season. If they know each other or are inspired to join because of another player that's already here, then that's surely a reason to be confident that there will be plenty of chemistry in the dressing room isn't it?

Even before the season has started, we've got players joining us that are already showing their admiration and likeness for players that are already here, isn't that promising?

I can see Ben Arfa, Marvauex, Cabaye and Tiote linking up very well. <ok>

We may lose some of the players that were big personalities last season, but there's still a lot of friendship and heart at NUFC, i can feel it, i can sense it.

Don't get worried lads!! I'm actually quite confident about our team next season!!!

    HOWAY THE LADS!

It would certainly be a good thing if there was some heart in the squad but having a dressing room full
of french banter isn't likely to go down well with the remaining lads not shipped out for having a high
wage packet. It remains to be seen whether any foreign players will 'get' us fan's desire for graft and
commitment in the derby games etc and newcomers aren't just hired hands with no real connection to
the club like academy and life long fans getting their chance; for me this is the key reason Carroll's
departure leaves such a bitter taste.

No point speculating though - time will tell ultimately.

Bollocks. The likes of Nobby Solano, Emre and more recently Jose and Tiote have put a lot more graft into derbies and all other games than countless English players we've had over the years. The idea that foreigners 'get it' any less than English players (especially English players who aren't from the region anyway) is just daft xenophobic stereotyping. Remains to be seen my arse.

wait a minute, last time there was a taylor discussion you were saing he was an injury prone crock, and I was saying that he'd been brought back too quickly and he'd just been unlucky. <whistle>

Colo, Jonas, Saylor, Barton(most likely will still be here) and the french lads are the reason we'll have team spirit. The way Hatem has sold the club and how the signings have reacted to that makes me think they'll give their all.

Well that's telling me! Fair point about Solano.

I truly hope you're right and was in no way implying any xenophobic/racist points
deliberately or even subconsciously and was just commenting on the perceived team
spirit in the squad after the latest shake up by Ashley.

To be fair to the new players, whether it's all PR guff or genuine, they've all been quoted
as being well up for putting on a good performance for their new fans.

Mind, Jose's performances significantly dropped off last season and looked like his
heart wasn't in it any more.

  16. Hmmm I've never said anything like that about Steven Taylor. I've said he's been injury prone the last couple of years to support my view that another CB should be bought during the summer for security, but i've never called him an injury prone crock and/or made out that i dislike him at all. I've always loved Steven Taylor.

He has been unlucky with injuries but he has been injury prone. I fail to see what argument you were trying to bring up here mate.

To be fair, there is a Spanish like click there now with Colo, Jose and Jonas, it looks likely that that will be split up, and we will just have a new click formed, French style. I think they will all get on, if results start going badly against us then things could turn but they have no reason to fall out.

I agree with Tash. The team spirit will still be there, it'll just be in a new interesting form.
