Hi folks, just wanted to ask what the current standing was on these two keepers?

So it seems, Green is in talks with a view to a new contract - yes? no?

Cesar is on loan but how long is his contract with us for?

Is the club looking to forfeit Green ( who is out of contract ) and retain Cesar ( who still has contract time left?

    Your thoughts are appreciated ...........

At the risk of repeating what's been said a million times, Green has been great for us and actually wants to play for QPR. Cesar is a 'name' who disappears when the going gets tough and just wants to live in London.

Cesar is in Brazil whilst Green is at Butlins in Minehead.

Could drag on all summer. No point giving Green a new contract if we can't shift Cesar. Won't be able to shift Cesar until after Brazil get knocked out of World Cup and will doubtless depend on his wage/location requirements.

Yet again, let's be clear. No one has said that Cesar did not want to play for us last season. We did not play him for contractual/cost issues. Green did a very good job last year but Cesar, though far from perfect, is the better keeper. Redknapp has described Cesar as 'a world class keeper' and 'a great guy'.

Spot on Stan. I really detest this Cesar angst. Nowhere has he said he wouldn't play for us in the Championship

Cesar is the better keeper and I would be happy to see him start next season

Thanks all for your comments, yes ....... that's how I was thinking but in saying that, I've always held the view that at Green wants to play for QPR and Cesar seems to have a different take on it.
Once again, I would still like to have Green with us but now that we are back in the PL, Cesar's opinion of our club may differ now and may want to carry on with us. ............. ( I know I've bagged him from pillar to post for his attitude regarding the club.)

Do we sell him, do we keep and play him ................. I'm sure Harry and Tonz will work it all out.

Simply don't need or can afford a 40k and a 80k keeper, TF has said we must learn from our mistakes.

Ive put the Cesar saga in the same box as the Adel one ATM. clearly not gonna change anyones opinion Stan. Even if he does win the world cup...and he seems to be doing ok to me at the moment <ok>

So when Cesar comes back a WC winner, will be be able to parade the World cup around Loftus Road one weekend..pref against the scum or leicester...

I still think Ceasar is the better Keeper. Seems like we should keep them both to me, then we have 2 Keepers of PL or close to PL standard, with Murphy as the 3rd one. But if we get a good offer from Cesar then no doubt we will cash in and save some wage cost as well, but will need to bring in a new one.

I'd be really sorry to see Green go. His performance for in the Championship, though not flawless, was highly material in where we are now, particularly his heroics in the Final. Cesar is a top class keeper, but I don't he feels any particular loyalty to QPR and that might show in the difficult, relegation battle we're likely to be facing. I won't lose sleep if we sell Cesar well, and I'd wish the guy good-bye and good luck.

Green's weekly wedge is said to be £40-50k. In the new 'careful' times I doubt we will offer him that much this time round.

Then we will see his 'loyalty'. Personally I think club loyalty is extremely rare amongst professional footballers at the top level - they may be loyal to their team mates, but their career and income will take precedence 99 times out of 100. That's just the way it is, though its difficult for fans not to project their own values on players. Of course if they want to maximise their careers and income, putting in a proper shift every time they take to the field should be a given (ha ha), so we shouldn't suffer as a result. Whatever the motivation the result - committed, professional performances, should be the same.

It's slightly different at international level - the performances of USA, Chile, Algeria and Colombia (and doubtless others) show the players really were playing 'for the shirt' (and did themselves as individuals no harm in the process).Whereas ours were unable to adapt to being played slightly out of position.

Green is not very good, he had one very good game all season and that was the final.

Look at Howard, he made 6-8 very good saves against Belgium, green let's in ~50% of shots.

I'd like to get rid of both, Cesar's value will never be higher unless a clanger costs Brazil. Get a couple of butland, smithies, McCarthy type goalies in.

Last time he was there, green let in 9 goals while making only 7 saves before being replaced.

That is exactly how I see it too.

Let's remember that we got Green from West Ham at a time that they got promoted and he was out of contract and (if memory serves) wanted a wage that they weren't prepared to pay. I seem to recall that we didn't overpay by virtue of the fact that he'd burnt his bridges with the Hammers by that stage anyway.

As SB says, that doesn't make Green an exceptional case but nor does the fact that Cesar didn't march into the gaffers office and ask for his wages to be slashed.

Green laughed at his replacement's mistake when he got frozen out and I think Cesar's view of us will have been tarnished in the same way as he got the frosty shoulder - at least our goalkeepers are consistent! I don't remember Cesar saying he wouldn't play either and I think the much slated recent comments about training in the park were as much about an almost embarrassed disbelief that he had to train in such a way was the overlooked point.

Personally, I'd opt for Cesar of the two - for quality and for the fact that he's been unfairly branded as all sorts (in my opinion) so it's a bit like rooting for the underdog.

In reality, I'd expect Green to be between the sticks next year and Cesar to leave permanently once his MLS loan expires though.

He had one excellent game all season, I tried to find the save percentage but all could find was his PL stats and they were bad.
It backs up what I saw with my own eyes, every other shot on target went in.

Well that's bollocks. Can you provide the stat for shots on target v goals conceded?

You can look yourself but you'll have to look at individual match reports.
Then you can add up the whole season.
There were loads of games were one chance equaled one goal for the opposition, after the other goalie made lots of saves.

In fact. Add up the opposition goalie saves against us and compare it against green and see where he stands

Edit, I've just realised they count absolutely every shot, even mishit 30 yarders. Green let in the first threatening shot in virtually every game.

I just had a look, there were 12 games where he either had the same amount of saves as goals or less.

I did go to yeovil but I don't remember him having a good game, it was more them missing sitters rather than saves.

Neither of us had green as motm.

Agree your definition of loyalty, Stan. Nowadays, it IS generally to the team not the club (unless a player brought through from youth). Green certainly has loyalty to the team and visa versa. Cesar would come back and fit in, being the good professional that he is, but I still feel if this happened and Green went, something would have been lost. I don't agree with Flyer that Green had a poor season and feel he is part of the backbone on which we build. We've made the mistake of losing our backbone before...
