I still don't think we have a replacement for gerrard, perhaps we never really will since he is such a complete player. Hendo is **** as a CDM and Lucas offers **** all in attack. I think Lallana would be wasted in a holding position. So, other than Gerrard, who is there?...Alonso??
I fear we may have ripped you off on this one. Alan was always popular with saints fans having been at the club since a nipper but his comments on leaving left a bitter taste in the mouth 12 months on from signing a five year deal and claiming he would 'bite your hand off' if you told him he could finish his career at Southampton (could be good Suarez replacement though ) What is more worrying is that many fans thought we should offload him in 2012/13 as he did not seem to be improving. One really good season we are grateful for (2013/14) but slightly surprised that justified a £25m price tag. Even more surprised you paid it! I hope I am wrong but there are some worrying comments leaking from the club now about his departure. Talk of striking to force the move and constant substitutions last season when he refused to play in the position he was told to by the manager. All sounds a bit unprofessional anmd symptomatic of a player who thinks he is better than the rest of the team. On the plus side, I guess you can sell us Couthino now?
no chance of getting Coutinho lol, hopefully couple of seasons time he will be quality(should be in brazil now in that team), needs to work on his final decision making though. how much of the money you have made, do you get to spend?
Don't worry, we're used to big egos, Gerrard will kick him in to place. We are also kind of of the consensus that 25million is too much. For me, it reminds me too much of the Allen signing from swansea, and that was only £15m, although lallana is a better player. However, I think it is another example of the fact that a player's value should not just be linked to himself in isolation - Rodgers is starting to get the team to play greater than the sum of all its parts (as SAF always used to with United) and perhaps sees Lallana fitting like a glove into our setup, plus he is prem proven (which is still a big risk, even coutinho is still taking some time to adjust to the intensity). We had no right last season to match City right until the end, and they have a squad of multi-million pound "superstars", compared to our lean/efficient team.
Hang on, you wanted to get rid of him, then 12 months later you change your mind and want to keep him. 12 months ago all he said is he would be happy to stay but now you're bitching he's taken a big money move to a massive club. #reallyshitfans
But he has thanked the fans, and in a more public way than both Lambert and Shaw. His lack of effort to thank the Saints' fans was cited by a few of your lot as the main reason for their sudden anuimosity towards Adam. Has this been changed or at least ameliorated now?
Those who want to bitch will still bitch Kevin Mar ‏@kevmarmol 14h @dailyecho his agent/pr man must've been hard at work today then john wareham ‏@johnnyboygb 14h @dailyecho @TonyHusbandBBC why didn't he use the official SFC website like srl and Luke Shaw did ? Something to hide ?? Lewis Austin ‏@Lewaustin76 13h @jakeyjelly hes a ****. Just got given 100k a week contract and he can only afford £1500 advert in the local newspaper. Tight ****. Shaun The Cabbie ‏@ShaunTheCabbie 13h @dailyecho Nice of his Agent/PR Co, to think about any #SaintsFC fans who may take a crap 2moro before realising they're out of loo roll. #reallyshitfans
Don't know. AFAIK they haven't chanted for his son to die like Everton fans to Rooney and Gerrard either.
In our first season in the PL, he did struggle to make the step up (which he admitted). We weren't trying to get rid (hence his new 5yr contract) but felt he needed to improve or we should look at other options. He then had a really good season and as soon as you came along went on strike to force a move. Don't get us wrong, we do not begrudge a move to a bigger club and TBH if I was him I would have done the same. He is 26 and may not get another chance, particularly if last season was a one off. What grates me is that his talk of loyalty and wanting to stay at Saints for life when signing his contract, at which point his form probably didn't justify that sized contract. 12 months later he is forcing a move through the media and telling the Club he won't play for them again. Its not about leaving, its about how he left and this one page article which is mainly a picture of himself is not going to placate the fans.
Didn't happen - end of story. The Gerrard 'baby' only ever got mentioned in terms of it's true parentage. Rooney's lad was mentioned in the "No woman, No Kai" song, after he got caught with his pants down (again) and she was threatening to dump him. Anyway back on topic, have Southampton showed their bitterness by burning any Lallana shirts yet?
Lol I've been waiting for the "we're really annoyed he's leaving us but secretly pleased as he's actually **** and you've been conned as all our other players are better" type post a la the Swansea fans.... Much more restraint from Saints fans I must admit.
