Wasn't there only a dozen or so entries in that first world cup they won though? Not really a comparably competition to the current format. Back then political and other factors prevented the best teams always taking part where as now the best teams always take part - decided obviously by a qualification process. Not to say it wasn't a big achievement but 2 world cups in those first 4 tournaments is not as impressive as if they'd won 2 out of the last 4 say.
Shhhh...don't tell the Liverpool fan it's more impressive to win an international competition when there are lots more good teams taking part!
People people... Lets just agree that Uruguay and Liverpool were much better when things were much easier. #settled
John Terry is Uruguayan? The teams in the competition for the most part WERE the best in the world at the time. British teams weren't taking part... but as I said, it was only the better teams in the world that competed! There were fewer countries in general that took the sport seriously then... as is true comparing 1966 to now! Like 2001, and 2005? And I suppose real football starting in 1992 and ended in 2013- never to be seen again.
Shhh Don't tell united fans you had to win the league before you could even compete in the competition
OT, anyone know why i can`t see thread status as in if i have posted to them or if they are locked etc ?
