No, I think it's a fair assessment. But it's a lot of money to spend on someone who isn't a step up from what we already have. To knowingly spend that much money on a player who isn't a guaranteed starter seems wasteful.
So long as the funds aren't being diverted from defensive signings it's ok. He is equal to Sterling in goals and assists but better defensively. He is also more left footed so adds balance. I expect him to start more often than not. Last season he played in every league game. I also don't think "squad player" is such a dirty word for a club competing in so many competitions.
I think he's an above average English player and will do very well for us. But, time will tell. Good luck, Adam.
We could just trust BR on this couldn't we? You know, the guy that nearly won the title last season after 4 years of utter ****e? It's all about matching talent & attitude with Brendan, and he thinks Lallana is perfect. He's a good ****ing player, not sure what the negativity is about.
An improvement on Allen and Gerrard being a year older he's arguably an improvement on him from an attacking sense as well. Probably better defensively than Gerrard as well actually. Good player. Bargain for £15m, decent for £20m maybe lil overvalued at £25 but as long as it doesn't mean we can't afford a new full back then not overly concerned.
I agree, I think he's a very useful player to have in the squad, just don't know if we have the budget to bring in another quality attacking player as well as Lallana for £23M. So if it comes down to it and we don't have the funds to bring in a Shaqiri/Sanchez/Cuadrado/Firmino it's going to feel as though we wasted (this is overly harsh but I can't think of a nicer term) money on depth over top quality.
I still think Moreno and, to a lesser extent, Shaquiri moves are on the cards, but we'll only get Sanchez as part of Barca-Suarez deal, if it occurs.
Can't see him being played in that central role alongside Gerrard, he's more in that Coutinho role of AMC but that can also play either wing. Defensively he covers a lot of ground but wins the ball back a lot less than Gerrard, Allen or Henderson.
Can't see why some of you are calling him average. Whenever I've seen him play he looks quality. It should also be noted that it's pointless signing anyone unless they 'fit' into the style of play that BR wants. I see him as a perfect fit. Are you saying he's not better than Allen ! I like Allen but lallana is a definate step up. It's no good signing players just for the sake of it. You want players who want to play for Liverpool and are not just there for the money. I think lallana wants to play for Liverpool. Too many on here are quick to judge without giving him the chance. The price tag is irrelevant. If we had signed him for £15 million everybody would be jumping for joy. It doesn't matter what he cost if he brings more to the team. This is what worries me over the Suarez/ Sanchez rumours. If Sanchez is not interested in playing for us then there is no point in him coming.
Gerrard with Hendo and Lallana infront with Sterling or Coutinho at the top. That's how well line up. Lallana and Hendo will put in a lot of running to cover for Stevie.
You can't compare him to Allen he is a totally different player. If you put Lallana in that holding midfield role I'm not sure he would do as well as Allen there, but Allen wouldn't be half the player Lallana is further up the pitch. I didn't say he was average either, I think he's good or even very good, just not great. I'm not sure you improve on second place signing good players. Agree with you regarding players wanting to play for the club but most of them are motivated by money and success over anything else. Cuadrado and Firmino are both coming off several fantastic seasons for Fiorentina and Hoffenheim, surely we offer more in the way of money and potential success than those respective clubs?
If Rodgers added a technical aspect to most of our British players - Sterling, Flanagan, Henderson... There's no reason we won't see Lallana further hone his game - which is already based on guile and vision. Excited to see his pressing game next season if we use him in the same was as the Saints did. Works so hard. Anyway - thinking about fullback. I think I'd go for Rodriquez, Rojo and then Moreno in preference?
