RoboCop 2014 Review:

Story:
The movie starts with a news show named The Novak Element, the host Pat Novak is a strong supporter of mechanized police force, he takes the viewers to a live coverage in Tehran where the US army is using the latest military mechanized soldiers developed by the OCP, the robots are carrying out identification of knows terrorists in the population, a small group of terrorists with suicide jackets and assault rifles attack the unit and gets killed, but the robot soldier kills a teen who has just armed with a knife considering it a threat, the live coverage goes down, but the host still supports having robots here in US homeland,
Back at home, The Dreyfus act is against robots and it stops Raymond Sellars CEO OCP from developing robots for domestic use in USA, Sellars want to push through with the project at any cost, on the other side Detective Alex Murphy and his partner Jack Lewis are investigating a crime boss knows as Antoine Vallon, not knowing that vallon has two police officers on his payroll, vallon wants alex off his back so he decides to kill him with a car bomb, after the explosion Alex is severely injured,
To avoid the technicality of laws sellars meet chief scientist Dennet Norton who is developing a program for the injured replacing their destroyed body parts with robotic body parts, sellars decide to put a man inside a mechanical suit to avoid the public sentiment against full robotic warriors, they contact Alex’s wife & bring alex in the Robocop project, Norton starts developing Robocop project away from USA in China, the tests go well and after some operational and field tests Robocop is brought to USA. But since Alex’s conscious is getting into the way of his working, Norton is facing difficulties controlling Robocop, Norton tampers with his brain and put a feature which can subdue Alex’s human conscious and make him follow commands like a real robot. In a press conference Alex’s wife and son see that Alex don’t even recognize them and walks right pass them, his brain has the police database loaded in it so he identifies a criminal and detains him, the people are beginning to think in favor of Robocop, when alex’s wife is not allowed to meet alex coz the OCP thinks that she can trigger emotional responses in his brain making him regain his conscious, she stops him and talk to him when he was going out of the police station, her words do trigger emotional reactions and Robocop starts to investigate his own murder, he goes to his home and check out the crime scene, he tracks down the vallon starting from the bottom guy, when he reaches vallon’s hideout he fights his way through the bad guys and kills vallon, he finds the finger prints of two of his fellow cops in vallons guy, he goes back to the station and kills one of those two cops, then he asks his partner to arrest the other, he also checks the call list of the chief of police he finds that even she was involved, just as he is about to make her confess her crime, he is shut down by OCP, Alex is taken back to OCP,
Sellars use this to his advantage and pit Novak convince the people that even human police officers can be corrupted but not a droid, Alex’s wife goes to the press and tells them that she is not allowed to see Alex, sellars think that from this point onwards Alex will be a problem so he decides to kill him, he calls Norton and asks him to kill alex and he calls Alex’s wife informing that Alex got out of control and shot a staff and after that became unstable and died later on, Novak pretends as if he ready to go with Sellars but when he gets back at his research center where Alex is present he disconnects Alex’s OCP monitoring and control module, and tells him about the truth, Alex goes out to arrest Sellars, when Sellars finds this out he gets a team of droids to protect the OCP HQ and gets a heli to get him out, Robocop reaches the HQ fights his way through and reaches the Top of the building where Sellars is, knowing that Alex’s only weakness is his family Sellars ask his security team to bring alex’s wife and son to the roof where Sellars is present and Robocop is coming to, since OCP developed Robocop it has a security feature that forbids Robocop from shooting anyone who is a “Red Asset” meaning a person who is friendly or is of importance, Robocop’s inbuilt feature stops him from killing Sellars but when Sellars point the gun at Alex’s family, alex overrides the function and still shoots Sellars, Alex is heavily damaged in the firefight so Norton gives him a new Body, alex’s family goes in to see him in the research facility, the Dreyfus Act which was passed by majority is discarded by the President of USA based on the testimony of Norton who has developed Robocop.

Well the movie takes time to develop, the part which projects the development of Robocop in china is slow and it could have been shot in a faster pace, more importance is given to development rather that the operational aspects of Robocop, the movie clearly lacks the scenes where you see the full operational functions of Robocop, the movie does not has the old gun coming out of his leg scene, its projected only once in the whole movie, also that Robocop never reloads his gun but can fire in full auto mode almost all the time, now that’s from the old movies, although they tried to improve Robocop by making it black it still does not really comes out as the super cop we all want, it seems that Robocop still finds it hard to move with decent flexibility, the movie lacks some action, it could have done with some more,
The looks of this movie is okay not really good, the tech used the Robocop suit all are okay not really good, he goes around in a racing police bike instead of a cop car which is nice, also his visor can roll back to his head and reveal his face that is nice, the weapons design was not impressive, the end fight scene should have the best elements but it goes on like a regular fight scene nothing special about it, even if you are a Robocop fan you might still be a bit disappointed by this movie, it does not really connect with today’s expectation, if you are bored on a Sunday afternoon you can watch this movie but don’t expect to be really entertained.

Edge of Tomorrow Review.

Story: The movie starts with various news reports of a meteoroid strikes on earth, an alien race called Mimic has taken over a large part of Europe. Tom is major William cage who acts more like a military spokesperson, his job is to encourage people to join UDF the United Defense Force. Major Cage arrives to London to meet General Brigham, Brigham informs cage about the Operation “DownFall” a D-Day style united offensive against the Mimics, cage must participate in DownFall and cover beach invasion that will take place in France. But cage refuses to do that coz he does not have what it takes to be a soldier, cage tries to blackmail Brigham that he will manipulate his news covers and will make Brigham look responsible for the losses of life in the war, Brigham orders his security officers to arrest Cage, cage tries to run away but is captured and knocked out, he wakes up in Heathrow Airbase, this base is one of the forward operations centers for DownFall, the Master Sarge Paxton takes cage and assigns him to a low grade unit of inexperienced soldiers known as J Squad, Brigham also send a not to Paxton that cage is a deserter and is demoted to private for non compliance of orders of superior,
When DownFall starts cage and his unit are dropped into battlefield, their transport is hit and cage is the last to fast rope down, cage does not even knows how to handle the War suit that is designed to fight this war against the mimics, he cannot even get the safety off his weapons, there he saw Sarge Rita who is a reputed soldier also knows as the Angel of Verdun, a battle she won and killed hundreds of mimics, he watches her die, finally he manages to get it off and kills one mimic, he was lying on the ground when a giant mimic comes out of the ground it was a alpha mimic, cage pick up a mine, the mimic attacks cage and the mine blows up the alpha, alpha’s blood covers cage and he wakes up at the Heathrow airbase the previous morning,
Cage tries to change things every time but fails until he saves Sarge Rita once in the battlefield, she identifies that cage has the ability to know about future events and asks him to find her when he dies and wakes up the next time,
Cage meets her and tell her everything she takes cage to a scientists named Carter, Carter tells cage that mimic is not an race but more like a single entity, that has a hive mind, and that the primary of this entity is called Omega, omega has to ability to reset time, the plan is simple the alphas recon the battlefield in war and when it gets killed the omega resets the time and makes necessary changes the next time, this helps them get better every time, coz cage was covered in alpha’s blood he too now has the ability to reset the time, Dr carter tells cage that cage will be able to see visions of this primary entity coz of the hive mind, and cage locates omega via a vision in Bavarian alps dam,
Cage finds out that Rita too had once faced the same thing and she could reset time as well, that’s the reason of her victory in Verdun, but she lost the capability after she was injured and she had a blood transfusion. Rita trains cage each time he dies he gets better in war.
After many tries cage decides not to see rita and go to war, he rides off to London, he sees that DownFall is only decoy war, the mimics plan is to kill as many soldiers in the battlefiled as they can and attack London via waters, the same day later, when he dies he wakes up and tells this to rita and carter,
They now plan to kill the omega, but they cant get off the battlefield after many tries they finally get off the battlefield, they get into a vehicle and reach a small house where both their war suits battery drains so they leave them behind, rita finds a heli and wants to fly it to the omega, cage explains that he as been here many time but he cannot save rita past that point, rita still goes on to start the heli a mimic attacks and the heli crashes rita dies,
The next time cage decides to go alone and kill omega, he finds that omega is not there, omega gave cage a fake vision so that cage comes to that spot and fall into a ambush, a alpha attacks cage but does not kills him, the alpha tries to bleed cage so that cage loses the ability to reset, but cage manages to kill himself by drowning,
Knowing this Rita asks carter to tell cage about the experiment that carter was involved in, carter tells cage that he has worked in the development of a prototype transponder which when connected to a alpha would help locate the omega, and that Brigham was in charge of this research and he still has that in a safe in his office, cage and rita goes into Brigham’s office and convince him to take it from him but when they come down from his office they are attacked and killed, next time the escape in a car, cage injects the transponder in his leg and he sees the real location of the omega, its in Louvre in Paris, but his car crashes and they both are knocked unconscious, when cage wakes up he finds that he has been treated with blood transfusion, which means he can no longer reset the time, rita helps him escape the hospital then cage convinces J squad to join in and destroy the omega, they reach the location and their transport ship is attacked, cage begins to drown in water so he loses his war suit, they fight their way into the location where one by one all the J squad members did, finally a alpha comes around but they cannot kill it coz if they do omega will reset the time and next time it will know about this, rita distracts the alpha while cage drives into the water where omega is and drops a grenade belt, the alpha kills rita and drives after cage, the explosion kills omega, cage now absorbs omega’s blood and make a jump back in time, cage wakes up and find himself before the meeting with Brigham, he sees that Brigham is giving out a press conference informing that mimics have been defeated and the Russian and Chinese armies are getting inside Europe, cage travels to Heathrow airbase and finds Rita working out in the training center something that he has seen many times before,

The first thing about this movie is that it will give you a WW2 feeling, the beach invasion looks the same as D-Day, the war suits are cool and some of the action scenes in this movie looks nice, but yet I feel that the war suits was not really used as it could have been, the movie goes in a decent speed, but flows in a straight manner, the ending was very predictable and I did not really liked it, a super intelligent entity that can control time must have reset the time to save itself causing a major misbalance in time and cage would wake up in a more twisted future rather than past, that would look good, or at least a full assault on omega just like the final stage of video game Stalker SOC where everyone is fighting as the lead characters make their way to omega, omega busting out its energy and making young soldiers old in seconds and making them die, that would look cool to, the looks of this movie is Ok, the final fight scene is shot at night and that ruins it, it could have been better if it was shot in late afternoon or perhaps twilight,
Tom is the primary focus of this movie, which makes sense but too less importance is given to the alien race, there are no shots of the alien race fighting anywhere except DownFall. Its not really an out of the world movie, if you like tom and scifi you can watch it once but you wont not really bother to watch it twice. Any story that deals with time jump should not have a reasonable ending, it should always end with a shock, this movie totally fails that, much of its potential was either undermined or just neglected. Some time was wasted trying to project the emotional bond between cage and rita,
I will give it a 4/10

300 Rise of an Empire Review:
This movie shows the naval war that took place along the land battle that took place between Leonidas & Xerxes’s army, & the aftermath of Leonidas’s death.

Story:
The movie starts with the scenes of the battlefield Leonidas has been killed and Xerxes comes to take his head, Queen Gorgo wife of Leonidas tells Spartans about the battle of Marathon on board a ship, this battle was the reason why Xerxes came back to Greece to destroy it, she says that Darius 1 came to Greece but was attacked by Themistocles of Athens & his army as they landed on the beach, the Persians were not ready for this attack and they lost, Themistocles injures Darius with a single arrow, & Darius’s son Xerxes witness this, back in Persia Darius tells Xerxes to leave Greece alone as he says only gods can defeat the Greeks, at this time a female general in Darius’s army named Artemisia comes to see Darius, after Darius dies Artemisia poisons Xerxes’s mind telling him that he must become the god king and avenge his father’s death, Xerxes wanders off into the desert and finds a cave with strange people, he drowns himself in a small pond inside the cave and becomes the God King Xerxes & returns to his Kingdom. He declares war on Greece, as Xerxes forces arrive to Thermopylae, Themistocles meets the council & convince them to give him ships to fight a naval war against Xerxes fleet, Themistocles goes to Sparta to see king Leonidas but he is informed that Leonidas if seeking advice from the oracle & is planning to go to war with Xerxes on the land with 300 Spartans, Queen Gorgo being a proud Spartan refuses to lend her ships to Themistocles for war, Themistocles then meets up with his old friend Scyllas who managed to get inside the Persian fleet and gather info about them, Scyllas tells him that Artemisia is a Greek but defected to Persia coz her family was murdered by a Greek, she was taken as a slave and later left for dead where she was saved & adopted by a Persian messenger, (he is the messenger who went to king Leonidas to threat him and make him surrender), she was trained by the best & her brutality & her insanity for vengeance against the Greeks has made her Darius’s favorite & she was promoted to commander after she has killed many enemies for Darius,
The naval war begins, on the first day Artemisia sends one of her generals with a fleet, Themistocles rams the Persian ships with their ships causing major damage and then getting onboard & killing the Persians then retreat as the Persian ship were drowning, Artemisia kills that general as he could not get her victory, on day two she sends another general, Themistocles retreats & the Persian fleet follows him into the fog where they cannot see, they find themselves into creek & get into a bottleneck situation and the ships collide each other, Greek warriors jump into the ships & kills them all the second general is killed by Themistocles himself, at the end of the second day Artemisia sends a boat to Themistocles with a message that she wants to see him, Themistocles goes to her ship where Artemisia tries to seduce Themistocles & tell him to surrender and join her as her second in command, Themistocles refuses & leaves, on 3rd day Artemisia brings in some massive ships and they begin to spill oil in the water, Themistocles figures what she is doing orders his ships to retreat Artemisia sends in a squad of suicide fighters who have a backpack of oil on their back & they swim to reach the Command vessel that Themistocles is in, then the fire starters begin to start fire, the fire starts to burn up and cause damage to the Greek Fleet, then Themistocles kills a fire starter with a spear & he drops in the section where the oil is stored causing the Persian ship to blow, this causes major damage to ships on both sides, 1 of the suicide bombers manage to reach the boat that Themistocles was in and clims up onboard, Artemisia hit’s the bombers backpack with a single fire arrow causing an explosion, Themistocles is knocked out & falls into the water, but Artemisia thinks that he is dead & withdraws,
Themistocles is rescued by his people later finds out that King Leonidas & the 300 Spartans were killed by Xerxes army, he returns to Athens where he sees Ephialtes who is the deformed civilian who betrayed Leonidas by joining Xerxes & showing him a way to defeat the Spartans, Ephialtes gives him the sword of Leonidas and tells him that Xerxes is coming for Athens now regret his actions & asks Themistocles to kill him but Themistocles refuses to kill him, Themistocles tells Ephialtes to go back to Xerxes & tell him that the united Greek Naval force is gathering in Salamis, Themistocles goes to see Queen Gorgo who is mourning at her husband’s death, he asks for her help, but she refuses as she believes she has lost too much already, before leaving Themistocles gives Queen Gorgo Leonidas’s Sword & asks for her friendship & help in avenging Leonidas’s death & the other Greeks who were killed by the Persians,
Xerxes after defeating the Spartans reaches Athens and destroys the city, Ephialtes comes there and tell Xerxes about the Greek Plan, knowing that Themistocles is still alive, Artemisia takes her full fleet to destroy whatever is left of Themistocles navy.
In the final battle, a small number of Greek Ships commanded by Themistocles goes head to head with the massive Persian naval fleet, the Greek ship collide with the Persian & Themistocles rides a horse across severed Persian ships to reach Artemisia, they both fight each other & both get Injured, eventually Artemisia loses the battle when she is stabbed in the torso by Themistocles as she is about to die she sees that the united Greek Navy has come to fight the Persian navy, the Spartan queen Gorgo has arrived there as well with her navy, Artemisia dies as she sees Xerxes retreating, Queen Gorgo comes on board where Themistocles was & start to kill the Persians with Leonidas’s sword, Themistocles joins her as the massive Spartan army follows,

Well as it is with the 300 movies, this movie has some really cool visual design, the interiors the costumes, the fight scenes the atmospheric & landscape design all look cool, although it does not really match the previous fight scenes its still nice, the amount of gore and blood in this movie is higher than the previous one, the acting in this movie is nothing really out of ordinary, the war scenes are shot nicely but could have been better, coz it was a naval war & it was fought in the ocean more wide angel shots could be used, but anyways whatever the movie has to present is not bad too, the movie goes on with a medium speed, although it does slows down a bit from the day 3 war to the last war, the music in this movie is not really good as the old ones, some female nudity scenes were used, the longest was of course the scene were Artemisia tries to seduce Themistocles, overall a movie anyone can watch once for fun, the fantasy like world that is projected works for this movie,
I will give it 4.4/10
