Early treatment on a tweak may see him ready for the new season. Just sorry he has suffered this as a good world cup would benefit him and us.
Sunderland striker Jozy Altidore will not be hamstrung for long SUNDERLAND striker Jozy Altidore has been ruled out of USA's clash with Portugal on Sunday but the team are hopeful he will be fit for the remainder of the World Cup. The striker suffered a hamstring strain during his side's 2-1 victory over Ghana and there were fears he would be ruled out of the remainder of the tournament. But the injury is not as bad as first feared and USA boss Jurgen Klinsmann hopes he will be fit for their final group game against Germany. "Jozy has a strained left hamstring," said a team spokesman at their training base in Sao Paulo. "He will not be available for Sunday's game but we are hopeful he will be available in the tournament. He is here with us for treatment and conditioning." Clint Dempsey could be forced to wear a protective mask against the Portuguese after suffering a broken nose against Ghana. "At this point he hasn't decided if he will wear a mask or not," said the spokesman. "It's not required. "We travel with masks, you can do custom masks but we also have our own."

Don`t like the `risk` idea one bit. Sympathy for the lad obviously but, for purely selfish reasons don`t want it affecting us. Don`t want another Fletcher situation.
http://www.sunderlandecho.com/sport...derland-striker-returns-to-training-1-6702626 JOZY ALTIDORE’S hopes of participating in the USA’s World Cup second round clash have been boosted after the Sunderland striker returned to training today. Altidore injured his hamstring in the US’s opening group game in Brazil and there were genuine fears that the 24-year-old would miss the remainder of the tournament. But while he didn’t complete the entire session today, Altidore played a part in full training and he is likely to be on the bench for tomorrow night’s last 16 encounter against Belgium. While Altidore netted just one Premier League goal all season for Sunderland after his £7million move from AZ Alkmaar last summer, his fortunes have been vastly different on the international stage and he has become a key figure for Jurgen Klinsmann’s side. Ex-Fulham midfielder Clint Dempsey has led the US’s line in Altidore’s absence, with Klinsmann admitting last week that he was hopeful that the Sunderland man would be available against Belgium. “We are very optimistic,” said Klinsmann. “Every day is a big step forward with Jozy. We’re optimistic we’ll have him be part of the Belgium game.”
