Bolton striker Marvin Sordell is close to completing a move to Turf Moor for an initial £600,000 fee with add-ons. (Lancashire Telegraph)
Towards the end we saw something... still 600k too much for Sordell though, he'll get there and just be like we saw 90% of the season
It's up to him now. You can see a player in him, but he will have to bust a gut every game as this will probably be his last shot at the Premiership. Good luck to him.
I say "good luck" to Poyet, Dervite, Stephens, Kermorgant, Green, Hamer, Pritchard and all the departed except Sordell. They all, some more than others, did their best for Charlton, even if their best was not good enough. Sordell's attitude, on the other hand, just stank. If another employee stole cash or goods worth a few hundred pounds he would be facing criminal charges. Sordell effectively "stole" tens of thousands by impersonating a professional footballer. The fact they he scored a fine hat-trick once it was clear his future lay elsewhere and that "there is a footballer in there somewhere" just make it worse because it shows he was taking the piss out of the club and its supporters for most of the season. I wish him no luck at all.
He struggled under CP, but Riga managed to get a different player out of him. His work rate isn't brilliant, but he's a striker who needs the ball at his feet in the box. Sadly for 90% of the season we couldn't give him that. He was a big contribution as to why we stayed up - whether we like it or not. We will always have Sheffield.
Lol, i genuinely am dumbfounded when i see things like this, $600K ? Am i dreamin' ? I agree somewhat with the summary of him here by others, but you need to first show your worth, and $600k he is not.
Possibly - sometimes these moves happen with one eye on the worst case scenario. It can be easier to negotiate these deals with Bolton and Burnley being a division apart, and the player will be more willing to force the move through.
Sordell is a scumbag & the type of footballer who gives the game a bad name. He plays for contracts & nothing else. His efforts for us in 90% of his performances last season were little short of an embarrassment - remember his lack of willingness to close down and track back. No doubt he has lost a couple of stone off his fat arse this month in a bid to impress Sean Dyche, but Burnley must be mad to take him on.
I was thinking of the story of the lovely young model, who said to Bertrand Russell that they should have a child together, because with her looks and his brains you'd have an amazing child. His reply was "Ah, yes, but what if it had my looks and your brains?". If you could get a composite striker with Church's effort and Sordell's finishing ability it would be some player. But then again, what about a mixture of Sordell's effort and Church's finishing power?
Sordell was only here on loan anyway. Loanees come and loanees go. Some are more committed than others and it's pretty clear from his performances that he wasn't. What Burnley make of him is up to them. Perhaps Sean Dyche can find something that we didn't. Whatever.... it's not our problem. As Superchrissy said, we'll always have Sheffield, and that will do for me. That win, coming when it did, in the manner in which it came, was vital. The effect of that result was greater than just the three points gained. Do I wish him well..? Well, I've no reason not to. Time to move on, methinks.
I'll go with Blackheath on this one. He dug us out a bit near the end, finished his loan and buggered off. Would he have done better in a better team? We'll never know, but he's history now. Enjoy, Burnley.
