I see it more like this; where do you think you're going? Er, my agent says... I don't give a **** what your agent says, you're staying put monsieur. But, but, Adam and Luke... Are gone, they're history. You're the future of this club, for now at least. Now take this captain's armband and shut the **** up.
Well, that's as maybe. On your point of not looking back, I have to look back and say, what if, if I am to examine a possible scenario that may have happened. However, I agree there is no point now. You do realise that when you are disappointed that another important player leaves Saints, part of the disappointment is because the player has history and had a possible future, so you are automatically thinking what if he stayed..? Everybody indulges in what if's to a greater or lesser extent, even if they try to curb the tendency. I do my best, but it's unavoidable at times.
I tend to think shame he didn't stay or shame he had his head turned. I tend to only do the what if thing if it's myself I am questioning.
I agree with a lot of what you say TSS, and you Os, but as I have said on various threads I am still optimistic about what is about to happen. Fran made the excellent point that if the board knew what was happening months ago then Koeman also knew the extent of the player exodus before he agreed to join us. He wouldn't have taken the job on if he didn't have a plan for (a) replacing the players leaving with equal or better quality ones, and (b) taking the club forwards, both with the full support of the board and a large budget. Of course we have to wait and see, what choice do we have? But talk of relegation struggles is very premature. If we get to the end of August without signing anyone of note, I might start to worry, but let's get there first eh? The other feather in Koeman's cap is his success in bringing young players through into the first team. Well we all know about the Saints Academy, and it must have been a big factor in Koeman's decision to come to Southampton. Personally I'm looking forward as much as anything to seeing the likes of Harry Reed and Sam McQueen, not to mention Matt Targett, joining Chambers and Prowsey at various points during the next season, alongside all the excellent signings we are about to make.
If Koeman isn't excited about managing an EPL side with money to spend, he needs his head tested. They need to bottle his enthusiasm and sell it to fans.
What's happening with Leroy Fer at the moment? If Morgan does go, can we not snaffle him from Norwich?
Injuries took their toll, but he's a good player and would likely look a lot better with a half decent team around him. If we can cobble one of those together.
4 GK, LB, CAM, ST If Lovren and Morgan leave I'd add another 2. Still think youth is key, most of our best players have come through our youth system. Get Targett, Mcqueen and Sims around the first team regularly. Wouldn't also mind seeing Cropper, Turnball and Rowe also.
Agents will be ringing us up while rubbing theirs hands with glee as they try to sell us every player under the sun.
Big if. Even if he stays I think it's more necessary than a goalkeeper. Your third choice CB is likely to play more games in a season than your second choice keeper.
