Man Utd have got a long and growing list of stars who could easily take a pay cut and have guarenteed football with us. Anyone likely to want that these days? Kagawa, Fellaini, Hernandez?
I was going to say i'm surprised he had to drop so far, but they are in the championship. Unlucky to be shunted out by Clyne and then Chambers IMO.
Interesting view from Swansea on fees we are getting. http://www.fansnetwork.co.uk/football/swanseacity/news/35362/
Interesting...but wrong. English player premium is a myth. English club premium is real, but that's because on average they have more money so don't "need" to sell as much as Spanish/Italian/other Euro clubs.
Player's quality is just one of the factors which determine it's price tag. Anyway, Shaw is better than Davies, and far more talented.
Plus it's always better to buy a proven quantity in someone who can definitely perform in the Prem, compared to a punt on a foreigner who has never played in England.
Yeah maybe. I haven't seen much of Davies, could be a good buy for Spurs, don't think he is £25m though and that's not because he's Welsh.
To be fair to the chap who wrote the article he does acknowledge that Shaw is better. His argument is more to do with is he £21m better? That's when you consider they have similar levels of premier league experience and Davies even has three goals to his name. Davies looks a good player when i've seen him, seems to have more quality than Shaw in his delivery, but not as great a defender. It's just a bid from Spurs and I hope they do turn it down.
Swansea also have Neil Taylor to come straight back into their side as Davies' replacement, should he leave. Taylor was doing little wrong for Swansea until he broke his ankle. Talking of Swansea, I noticed yesterday talk of Michu currently having a medical with Napoli.
People see Shaw and think he will be another Bale. Once you produce one talented player in a position the next lightning quick kid you produce MUST be the same. This, and that buying a "Southampton academy product" says you are buying quality, and have to pay more. We really ought to start branding them. If a club had the choice of a Saints youngster and a Swansea youngster and knew nothing else about them, which would you choose?
The writer admits Shaw is better. So he is only 18 and is already better. That says one thing. Then as much as we malign England 3 caps for England are harder to come by than 10 caps for Wales, thats not being derisory but we could say for example that Joel Campbell having 9 caps is better than Lambert who only has 7 caps for England, is that true? Thats another sorted. Then we have the fact that Shaw is seen as potentially world class, where Davies isn't. Then how long has Davies got left on his contract and are Swansea's chances of holding onto a player should other clubs come knocking as high as Saints? Well we are struggling and I would suggest that Swansea would struggle even more. Is it £21m difference? Who cares, lets bid £8m for Davies. lol and then £18m for Bony and test the waters.
