As I said earlier, France were punished for what Cantona did while playing for Man Utd, so there's precedent.

You can't punish an individual player without punishing the teams he plays for when a ban is imposed. Fines are such an ineffective alternative that banning players is the only real punishment.

Suarez got away very lightly compared to Cantona. Kicking some knob in the crowd might not be acceptable, but is it worse than biting an opponent for the 3rd time?

I think it might be... It's more serious and perhaps even more shocking?

They're both in the top 5 of football incidents though I'm sure.

Cantona was clearly worse. He attacked a fan in the crowd after he'd already been sent off for kicking another player.
What Suarez has done is obviously unacceptable and he deserves what he's got, but the two aren't comparable, in my opinion.
Imagine what could have happened if the fans had retaliated against the Utd player? It could've been disastrous.

  7. According to the BBC, these are the matches that Goofy will miss for 'Pool:-

    16 August
    Liverpool v Southampton

    23 August
    Man City v Liverpool

    30 August
    Tottenham v Liverpool

    13 September
    Liverpool v Aston Villa

    16/17 September
    Champions League group match

    20 September
    West Ham v Liverpool

    23/24 September
Capital One Cup third round match

    27 September
    Liverpool v Everton

    30 September/1 October
    Champions League group match

    4 October
    Liverpool v West Brom

    18 October
    QPR v Liverpool

    21/22 October
    Champions League group match

    25 October
    Liverpool v Hull

That lot includes three CL matches, which undoubtedly means that 'Pool will be out of the CL before Goofy get the chance to take to the field to bite again. Given the fact that he only stayed at 'Pool (rather than making his dream move to either Arsenal or Real) was to help them get CL footy so that he could play in the CL with 'Pool, it can readily be appreciated that he might just as well **** off now to a club that is still going to be in the CL when he's allowed to kick a ball again.

I think he'll be missing all Liverpool's matches next season, won't he?

  9. One would like to believe so, Little Luke.

Barca certainly seem to be keen, though there is some doubt that they have the £68 million to trigger his release clause.

It could be that Goofy bit that Italian player on purpose, knowing it would lead to a vast reduction in his fee, making it easier for Barca to buy him? It is possible.

If Suarez doesn't go in the summer, the 4th CL match will be interesting.
A January raid by the Spanish is not so appealing if he is CL-tied for the KO stages.
Would he do an Adebayor for the remaining 3 games ??

  11. Uruguay had Luis Suarez's kit hung in the changing room ahead of their last-16 defeat by Colombia at the 2014 Fifa World Cup and fans wore masks of the banned striker.

    <yikes>

How weird is that! It's like something out of a very bad horror movie!

Think he'll catch all our games, they play later in Spain.

I'd take losing Suarez and spending the money on one of Sanchez, Shaqiri and then others.

  15. Unfortunately, that is the dichotomy that is Liverpool. On the one hand, there is the grief-stricken out-pouring for the Hillsborough loss, but there is still that hard-core tea-leaf element that will nick the bikes of those who are trying to raise money for the very thing that they (or, at least, their mums and dads) are crying over.

  16. BREAKING NEWS ON GOOFY!

A development on the Luis Suarez story to bring you - the Uruguayan striker has apologised for biting Giorgio Chiellini and has vowed "there will never again be an incident like this."
    (Source: BBC Football website)

    Yeah, right.

This reminds of that old children's morality tale...

    ...what was it called?

    Ah, yes! That's right...

He doesnt just bite, but we knew that already, though somebody kindly made this video to remind us of a fraction of it. And he gets away with 90% of it, yet more proof of the favour referees show Diverpool.

Someone needs to tally up the record of Spurs vs. Pool players on getting through in the world cup.

    My incomplete count is

Spurs: 6 through to the KO stages, 2 to the quarterfinals (Hugo and Paulinho)

One out (if Beni counts, considering he was on loan this year and is probably heading elsewhere)

    Pool: Let's see,

Sturridge, Sterling, Henderson, Johnson, Gerrard, Lallana, Lambert down with the England Titanic.

Suarez the exception that proves the rule, not through though his team was.

Kolo Toure out with Ivory Coast.

    Who have I missed?
