Well things seem to be in a mess again here at SFC. However i must say that having read through all the posts on this thread this morning i must congratulate all posters on a decent thoughtful debate following Spiders comments.
Whatever happens we cant influence any of the management decisions but we will all still support the Saints, whoever is in the team, when we go to Anfield for the first game of the new season in August.
If we can build a new team around Boruc, Clyne, Chambers, Fonte, Cork, Wanyama, S Davis, Ward-Prowse, JRod i feel that we can still be competitive in the PL.
FLT put perspective on the Saints situation last night. Lets lighten up and look ahead.

What I find strange though was even last week Les Reed was saying Lallana should stay for another year. It seemed to indicate he was still hopeful that it wasn't done and final unless I'm missing something.

Let's hope the change of heart was ours because we've secured a target.

It could just be that Les is naive. He was saying that he was hopeful Pochettino would stay until the very end, when it seems like Pochettino had agreed to go for a long time before that.

It would be very sad to lose Morgan - I think he was our most talented and most consistent performers last year. But guess what. None of the top four teams last year had lambert Lallana, Shaw, Lovren or Schneiderlin in their sides. Yet they still had good seasons.

Let's see what Koeman has planned.

The manager and a lot of players leaving was a shock to us all, but the real worry would be if the money from player sales wasn't mainly passed on to the manager. This isn't the case...so we are obviously not in a serious financial position and we have a lot of things to be positive about. This isn't a fire sale in the proper meaning of the word...it just follows on from our success. We turned our players into internationals and they decided to cash in whilst they could...of course, although money was important, most will be looking to further their careers as well. The unusual thing was how many great players were at a relatively small club. Still a lot to be positive about...it will just be different.

How can you miss what you've never had?

I'm sure Koeman took on the role with the full knowledge of these transfers. A new manager will be able to deal with this player exodus better than a current incumbent who would have had to motivate themselves.
They'll breeze in with new job enthusiasm on Tuesday, a few jokes from Jos and the players will be all smiles again

based on his history i'd be worried if the money was passed on to the manager.

then again based on our transfer history, i'm not too confident about the transfer committee either.

we could afford a high failure rate when we had a solid core to the squad. now we're entrusting a first team rebuild to them, which is something we've not dealt with since Pardew.

He would have known, so I doubt he is more looking forward to it then worrying. To him it's a challenge.

I think we have to realise that football is a business, but it is not like a normal business. A business leader can come out and deliver some not so good news (profits warning, CEO leaving, etc) but a football business leader has a different audience to speak to: fans. I don't think any football leader would say anything other than they think the player should stay, or they hope the player will stay. He didn't say that Adam Lallana is staying at the club and couldn't really say anything else. He had to leave that door ajar, no matter how small a gap, just in case he didn't go.

Which speaks well of the man (unless he's just played too much Football Manager).

Judging by the simmering anger about Mauricio, he played us. I think he is a natural deceiver...all smiles and charm, but ruthless. As for Adam, Les was right...he should have stayed another season, but I think he needed to strike whilst it was hot...I don't think he is as good as we made him look.

at least he won't have to deal with a hostile dressing room of senior stars as he did at valencia.

That's see what happens before worrying. Some are all to willing to worry about things that haven't happened yet.

Adam Lallana is a very, talented footballer. Put him in a team with players as good as him, he will continue to be good.

He is as good as we made him look; or as good as he made himself look too.

Agreed. It's sort of exciting! A new era at Saints. NC left in January but the last few months were sort of still his reign.... Now we have a new era.
