You have to read this ridiculous "article" by this "journalist" ... it is truly unreal http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/fo...atest-ever-footballer-has-been-overhyped.html I am willing to bet this cnut is a brassed of scum supporter who is trying to find a way to release his frustration at not being able to watch them in the Chumps Lge on sky next season
I'm intrigued billy. What is it that winds you up so much about it? That it questions whether pele was undeniably the greatest? That it talks about him as self publicist? That it suggests other players are worthy of merit in the 'grestest' debate? I must have missed the bit where he said pele was rubbish. He's challenging the view that we should just automatically accept he is the greatest. I'm a big boxing fan and Ali was my hero, i've read countless arguments questioning his credentials, and I don't agree with most of them but many of them do raise valid points to the discussion.
"How can you call someone the greatest player of all time if youâve barely seen them play?" Ironic then that you can come to the opposite conclusion based on exctly the same evidence ?
Rocky Marciano was the best in my opinion, but that's just it, it's all about opinions and different generations have different heroes....
I grew up being told Pele was the greatest, but I grew up watching Maradona and thought he was too, now I suppose Messi would be..
Maradona was a cheating sc*mbag & Messi hasn't led his country to 3 world cups yet. So maybe in time.
... The article suggests he may not have been the dominant figure in all those world cups boggers... And he certainly had better teams around him than maradona. That's the rub, as shako says generations have been brought up to believe pele was the greatest... People don't even question it. That's all the article was doing as far as I could see. To be honest, nothing that most of us haven't read before. Shako. Marciano? Now that would get you some stick on the boxing board I frequent But like you say wouldn't it be dull if we all agreed.
I'm sure it would Milky, but like I say I'm not telling you or anyone else that he was the greatest, I just thought he was.
Absolutely shako, it's all just a personal take on these things. There's no wrong or right in comparing historical sportsmen, only opinions.
Pele was ONE of the best in his time but he would not be able to cope with today football. Pele was a young kid and he was bloody good for his age but as time as gone on and the pace of football has got quicker with more rules then i have seen over the years a number of better player than what pele ever was....
Todays game is for ****ters.....soft as ****e. Pele played in a day when you could actually tackle someone, I'd think he'd have found it a lot easier.
Spot on shaks. You nailed it in one. Guarantee Suarez wouldn't have gotten away with nibbling on someone's shoulder in those days. Imagine if he'd tried biting our Billy? He'd have no teeth left
