You know... In January window Rodgers came out with a quote when he was asked if we would be signing any defenders saying "We already have a lot of defenders". I don't know if he has changed his mind in the last 6 months- but in the last transfer window he seemed to imply that signing any more defenders was a low priority to him! Maybe from the managers's area on the field it doesn't look like we have a problem defensively.
Best thing that could happen is that both Barcelona and Real Madrid really want him. It won't be a bidding war as such but it will see us get the release clause as they fight over him.
Assuming there IS a release clause... also- assuming they have the release clause in cash... If they don't have the liquid cash- and have to pay in payments they might end up paying more than the release clause! If the release clause is £70mil- and they offer us £60 now and £10mill in payments throughout the year- that doesn't meet the £70mill release clause. I'm not sure if Barca/Real would have that much liquid cash sitting around. If anyone can pay £70mill lump sum it would be Barca and Real. If they include players as makeweights- they might end up (figuratively) paying more than the release clause.
This rumour has started because Liverpool are meeting with Suarez's agent and legal team in Barcelona to talk about the situation and appeal. Anyone else find it odd that according to that article it says that Madrid have pretty much sorted an agreement with his representatives and though now they only needed to negotiate a deal with us. Erm, surely that's tapping a player up even if you don't speak directly to that player, you cant start negotiating things with their representatives without the selling clubs consent surely?
Never missed anything Diego, its pure bullshit, its like you believe that LFC got the first plane out to Barcelona as soon as Fifa announced the ban and were represented by Suarez's agent, LFC are looking at the legal situation regarding the effect the ban is having on him playing for us and they haven't even commented in detail on the situation officially yet. But you think Real, Barca, LFC and Suarez's agent are sitting around the negotiating table in Spain.
To be fair, we don't know that they weren't discussing before the bite. Admittedly unlikely, unless perhaps Barca or Madrid just put out some feelers. May have wanted to get in before his price rose at the world cup.
Thing is Nozzer there is supposedly a clause in his new contract specifically for European clubs and neither Real or Barca had announced they'd met the price in the clause before the ban, now all of a sudden they're supposedly choosing the terms and dictating to LFC what's going to happen, I don't think John Henry is the type to get told what's gonna happen with his money/asset unless he's doing the talking to himself.
Of course, if they don't meet the clause then Henry won't sell unless he wants to. Real and Barca can't force him to sell. And like the reporters, we don't know what he wants (maybe he doesn't know yet). Wait and see I guess.

Exactly JH has already shown he's a tough businessman, he certainly knows what he wants and will get that - if not Suarez stays, simple. I personally think it's time to cash in, or at least wait until January but make sure he's not cup tied. Spend some of the money now that we'll get in January I'd take 40mil and Sanchez to be honest. We still get a world class player and 40mil to play with. I see a rumour about Lazar Markovic for £25mil - anyone? The guy looks rapid.
So we're apparently getting Lallana and upping our bid for Moreno to £20m. Nice to see us making progress. Linked with yet another winger in Lazar Markovic. Very good player, but still want Shaquiri.
