Apparently we've offered 34 million for Luke Shaw

As a neutral, lower teir supporter, Shaw has undoutable potetential but seems a big investment in not your weakest area. Evra is good for a year or two, surely, the big bucks should have gone on central midfield. Seems a luxury signing for a top 2 finisher in the league IMHO not a squad rebuild? ,

United are being run these days with a huge debt burden but I suppose that's different to City as well!

City technically owe their owner more money than they are worth. Much more.

We are worth 2-3billion. Our debts 10% of our value. Not good but its hardly the end of the world. It doeant effect us all that much now. Previously ir may have been a factor or fergie may have liked a challenge. Who knows.

I think we're strengthening the LB position at exactley the right time. Evra has been on the decline the last season or so, he is still good and still puts in good performances but he's losing a bit of his pace now and sometimes is leaving us too open in the left side of defense.

By buying Shaw now we can have a transition season where we can use the experience of Evra and work Shaw into the team within the same season rather than a quick Evra out Shaw in situation which could potentially be too much for a 19 year old.

I am - completely irrelevant to this, but whatever.

I'm not an expert but aren't United holding some major amount of debt for their owners? Can you justify a splurge if you fail to qualify for the CL again?

Even without the CL money, and with the debt interest costs, we still make more money than every other club in England, and all bar three others in Europe.

Make more money = can afford to spend more money. It's really that simple <ok>

As for not qualifying for the CL - three years without CL didn't stop Liverpool from Suarez, Carroll, Downing, Henderson, Sturridge, Sakha, Borini etc, despite being close to bankruptcy just a year or so before. Again, Utd as a richer and bigger club can splurge more without needing the CL

Money aside, I honestly thing Luke Shaw could be one of the best in the World.
He has unbelievable maturity on the pitch for his age.
    Wish him all the best.
