""Now inside me there's no feelings of joy, revenge or anger against Suarez for an incident that happened on the pitch and that's done," said the Juventus centre-back.

"There only remain the anger and the disappointment about the match. At the moment my only thought is for Luis and his family, because they will face a very difficult period.

"I have always considered unequivocal the disciplinary interventions by the competent bodies, but at the same time I believe that the proposed formula is excessive.

"I sincerely hope that he will be allowed, at least, to stay close to his team mates during the games because such a ban is really alienating for a player.""

    --------------

    Maradona:

"The FIFA sanction is shameful, they have no sensitivity towards the fans, they might as well handcuff him and throw him in Guantanamo," said Maradona, who himself was given a 15-month ban from football during the 1994 World Cup for testing positive for the banned stimulant ephedrine.

"The sanction on Luis is a way of punishing Uruguayan clubs for asking CONMEBOL (the South American confederation) for a fairer share of money. It hurts that they have cut short the career of a lad who is a winner. It's an excessive suspension, FIFA cannot talk about morals to anyone.

"Suarez didn't kill anyone. This is an unjust punishment."

    Brazilian striker Fred:

"You can't deny that he made a mistake, but myself as a player, as a human being, I understand that inside, players get goosebumps. There's tension, a fight for space," he said.

"I think that his punishment is a bit too severe, from my point of view. I debated this with a few people, and most people think that it was fair.

"In my point of view it can end an athlete's career, four months, nine games and everyone all over it, and criticising the mistake he made.

"I do think he needs to be punished, but I would really like to see Suarez playing at this World Cup here in Brazil."

Obv Suarez is a silly twat but for some rival fans to be more outraged than Chiellini himself is pretty ridiculous

It's just PR. He's not going to come and say that Suarez is a disgusting animal is he? No, he's going to play the nice guy card and play it all down.

Think about how you would react if you were bit during a game.

If I were bit by Suarez...

First reaction: Oh my God, what a weirdo, he bit me... wtf? Who does that! How disgusting.
Second reaction: OK, not so bad, didn't even break the skin... still this moron deserves a red for doing this... "Hey Ref... look at this!"
Third reaction: OK, game over... bite doesn't even hurt anymore... I suppose I'm glad he didn't punch me in the face instead... disgusting human being- but in the grand scheme of things it was probably less of a deal than it appeared at the time.

I don't think I'd ever "like" Suarez. I think I'd always consider him a disgusting animal; but if no permanent harm done, and indeed- no short-term harm done- I'd shrug it off, realise Suarez is just an immature cretin, but that it really didn't impact me all that much. I wouldn't be out for revenge or long term booking for him. I'd want him punished... but I would have no personal investment in him being crucified.

    This.

Suarez agents will be on a huge PR drive to get stories placed saying what Racist did was not vile.

    Why?

Because he is multimillion global brand: they want to protect his value. A lot of people stand to lose out if his transfer fee, image rights etc go down.

Anyone with an ounce of intelligence can see this.

Also, there are plenty of pundits condemning Suarez for his behaviour.

Who cares what Maradona, that paragon of virtue thinks anyway

Not really. It's the third time he has done it. For the sake of the players he comes up against he needs to be punished. Chillieni saying he is over it is not the most important opinion. The general feeling amongst players is more important.

It's the third time he has done it. The first time you might think "oh it's a one off and the guy he has bit doesn't seem to have taken it badly" by the time he has had his third ban for biting other players it doesn't matter how annoyed the person gets, it's poor behaviour and needs to be dealt with.

My first reaction would be to turn around and hit him. And thats what will end up happening if he isn't stopped from chomping his way through his opponents.

I wonder if mosquito repellant would stop him?

He's saying "but at the same time I believe that the proposed formula is excessive". Not just saying he's over it. As the victim his is the most important im afraid

Suarez does indeed need punishing. My point is the haters saying the punishment not enough and also people who headbutt, stamp on legs in nastiness (you should know) and elbows arent seeing the same punishments

Biting carries a lot less medical consequence than the other 3 mentioned, but indeed, biting is of course disgusting

Getting spat on carries far less medical consequences too but I'd still want to rip his face off if he spat at me...

It's disgusting and it really doesn't matter if it causes lots of harm or not. He keeps biting people. It's three times now.

And no, chillienis opinion isn't the most important one regardless of being the victim.

So the victim/Chiellini should be the arbiter, not the governing body. <doh>

Let's introduce sharia law to football.

Well, if the cheating racist thug does go to Barca, it could be the best thing for Liverpool.

You blew your chance with the Gerrard-Suarez side to win anything this season. Best to cash in, rebuild and challenge again 2015/16
