could i ask if rather than new managers (particularly at big country pressures) that perhaps "coaches" are whats required.

    a) small time clubs have managers like dario gradi in places to have to coach and develop. would an experienced man like this work.

    b) european clubs have 1st team coaches and club directors buy players. is this why these managers do better.

    c) what about player respect? at a big country would a new man get respect... eg england big heads or italians or spanish? even cutch in fighting.

    d) finally i am trying to think of players who would be new to management and place as england manager. shearer, adams (at the time), neville, carragher, pearce, ince, lampard? do you think anyone would accept any of them... but my best example is the suited david beckham sitting with hodgson at euro 2012. he's prob the one i can think of.... however i must say none showed any interest in coaching badges like a rodgers did. none are qualified. how does this reconcile with your point

pretty much agree rhc accept the **** bit.

also, only respectable managers who fail, have the decency to quit, so rules hodgson out.

I actually Gary Neville may have the right character. Maybe Lampard looking at who other countries pick and do well with. Ferdinand?

Its United players of 92 that stand out most.

all we learned was that Roy is rubbish and we should have taken Ashley Cole

We generally played well other than a couple of split second defensive mistakes

that Africa hasn't evolved their game since 1990 and that Asia is 100 billion acres of wasteland where football is concerned

we have learned that more British players need to play top flight football. It's as simple as that. there are far to many players in the England team that should never be there but the manager had no choice as they were the best available...
