    Irony alert.

You can't definitively state he's got a compulsive disorder then can you?

Strange how this supposed compulsion only seems the rear it's head when his side is getting beaten in a big game. We can only guess at what drives him to do it. IMO he did that in the WC hoping to draw an elbow or a smack in the grid, which makes it merely an extension of his pre-disposition to ****ing cheat.

I understand why people are saying, this isn't as bad as that tackle...or worse than that one, but the reality is, the actions of Suarez were appalling. What makes it worse, is that previous punishments have not worked, as he continues to conduct himself in the same manner again.

My personal opinion, is that FIFA should have taken action when the FA banned him for his last "bite". At that point, when he was unable to play for Liverpool for 10 games, that should have been extended to the national team. I believe that anyone that acts like this is right to get a worldwide ban (no idea what the right length is). Those despicable actions must be punished severely.

What hasn't (and won't ever) be addressed, are the implications to the teams affected by those actions. Italy went out of the World Cup, Prandelli lost his job. Did the bite incident have a direct, indirect or non-related effect on Italy? No-one will ever know. This is another reason why video evidence (by 4th or 5th official) should be used at a game. If viewed there and then, he would have been sent off (btw - I am confident that no-one saw the Zidane headbutt until an official looked at a screen!).

I understand why Liverpool fans are aggrieved by the impact on the club, but Suarez should not be allowed to play football right now.

Maybe the legal battles that will ensue from this may mean that when players put in career threatening challenges, repeated abuse of refs etc., they will have "football" bans (rather than just club), I doubt - although I would very much support this. If a player is unable to control himself in the league or for his country, then he should be punished across all realms. That way, clubs would really have to think about the players they buy and how they are managed. It would also stop kids thinking that just because they are great footballers (and will make it big one day) that they have the right to do what they want - without serious consequences.

No, what I meant was, you are saying its the biting not being seen as a "manly" fighting thing so I thought I'd suggest hair pulling. Would you expect the same punishment if a playing had pulled hair on three separate occasions?

    Of course they're ****ing linked.

You bought a flawed player, he was a risk. He's reminded you of that risk on a number of occasions since, racking up ban after ban. He's now been dealt a massive sanction as he's shown yet gain that he's flawed. You can't moan about that now.

Ferguson got jailed for a head butt and when we signed him we did so knowing he was a hot head. He got a number of bans during his time with us, did we moan about whether it was fair or not? Did we ****

Nothing to do with heat of the moment? really?

So it was merely a spontaneous action that he's programmed to make, but just happened to show itself when his side's getting beaten in a massive game?

    Oh do **** off

Phil McNulty has piece on the BBC website here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/28043017

I'm not a fan of his reporting, as I find him a little derivative and unoriginal in his writing, which are all but opinion pieces, TBF. This one wasn't as bad as some others he's written by any stretch of the imagination. I found it fairly decent on the whole but took umbrage here or there at choice of words or turns of phrase. However, the piece turned to farce due to one part which is very pertinent to what brb was talking about yesterday.

    Here is the sentence:

Victims? Spare a thought? This is terminology used for people who are dead or have suffered grievous, life-threatening or life-changing injurious either physically or mentally. It is absolute lunacy. <grr>

He's clearly trying to be inflammatory. It's worked on me. <laugh>

I'm not a doctor, you know I am not, you also know I cannot state anything as fact on this. if he does something that he knows he's gonna get lampooned for he is either a sado masochist or he has a compulsive disorder. It's pretty clear he has.

Doesn't take a genius to see that when someone knows there will be bad consequences for doing something detrimental to one's self, and they still do it, it is compulsive, like gambling your wages away say.

But this is JUST SPECLATION and you know it is already.

Pros in the game are saying and I agree, that FIFA should ave made it mandatory to attend sessions with a psych as part of his punishment as anyone with common sense knows and says it is not normal that he does this repeatedly, not normal at all.

As for the game type, that is irrelevant. he is obviously capable of doing this in ANY game he gets annoyed in

I agree with the ban in principal but I'm really annoyed that he cannot train because that will have a negative on his game and lower his value to Liverpool and I feel that is unfair on our club.

Hair pulling doesnt have the same level of animalism to it though.
I think the problem is, people hear bite, they think of the damage it can do, scarring, transmission of germs (human bits can get really infected) etc.
I now Suarez didnt take a chunk out of anyone, or even draw blood, but this is whats going through peoples heads when he does these things, hence, the outrage, hence the FIFA pandering.....its easy to see what happened here.

Maybe they should have, but it's their job to protect the game not necessarily a particular player.

LFC, the PL, the FA and the PFA should all insist that he now confronts whatever issues he has and whatever drives him to do what he does. He's in the last chance saloon here, as a 4th event could finish him.

    He cannot train?
For the whole 4 months? Thats ridiculous!!
So even when he returns he is going to be so far from match fit, it will take another month to get him back up to scratch?
He will look like Rooney by the end of the 4 months!

Why a training ban? That makes no sense whatsoever!!!

Just a thought as to what Liverpool would do if Uruguay appeal this decision and then FIFA go and extend the ban...???

Uruguay might feel it's worth the challenge just to try and get him in for the next game, but as we know sometimes these challenges can back fire on you and a increase to the already given ban can be increased...!!!

It's not a good situation for Liverpool to be in, though I do agree that he should be banned and think its about right - (I was thinking it would be a 12-15 match ban...) we really wouldn't have a leg to stand on other than to ask Uruguay for compensation for not taking the medicine handed out by FIFA and causing more disruption to our team...

Then the club has to seek compensation from the player himself. It is nobody else's fault but his.

That's what is really getting to me, I want us to sell him but after 4 months of no football and not being able to train what state is he going to be in? This is going to affect his value and that's just not right.

people say it cannot be increased, i don't know.

i don't know but the ifa rep said it will end no 1 and doesn't change with appeal (delay start)

if uraguay get say oh i dunno 3 games off and lfc get 4 months still then the system is seriously flawed and we should sue.

I personally am comfortable with ban as punishment and feel uraguay can appeal if they wish but if they harm lfc in any way they should be called on it.
