Has said he isn't signing a new contract with Charlton so is free to discuss with other clubs, apparently only gonna take 300k-600k compensation to get him also.

Please can we sign him, be a great player for us and a good show from the club in what has currently been a pretty poor off season imo. Or do we think he is moving to the prem? Not sure he is ready for that step-up

That will be a no then.
Read somewhere on the wider forums (probably the charlton forum) that a number of pl clubs are keen to take him.

If he knew better he'd stay in the champ and get some games, only 19 or something and unlikely to be playing in first teams in the prem but if he picks a club which is likely to get promoted in the next couple years (so probably not us) then it would be alot better for his career imo.

See your point, but at 19would you turn down a prem contract?
    10 or 20 grand a week!
Money talks, and he might think he's good enough.

    I would for Leeds

But seriously I can understand the draw of the prem, and I get why a young player would want that move as soon as possible if he had the chance. I'd like to think that younger players would have good guidance though, if they truly are good enough they will play their one day, at this stage of your career you need to be playing competitive football week in week out imo. and he won't get that at a prem club.

Don't know how old you are, but I can't think of many 20 year old blokes past or present who take advice of others. Even more so when cash. Flash cars and fast women are likely to be on offer. At 20 we all think we are irreplaceable.

I'm sure they'd get all that playing for Leeds United in the Championship

Yeah but who would you rather be Raheem Sterling or Alex Mowatt. He may or may not get game time for Leeds or a Premier League club but if he succeeds in the Prem he will experience success way beyond any success he could achieve at Leeds for example national caps, international recognition etc. I don't think its just money that attracts young players to the Premiership I think the desire to be the best weighs in as well and let's face it the Premier League hasn't been short on lads not even hitting their 20s and making a name for themselves so why wouldn't young players think they could make it.

I know, not even suggesting he would, just saying he should join a championship club.

Don't agree, life is too short, if you get a chance to prove yourself at the top level of anything grab it while you can. If it don't work out you can always go back to a lower level, but with ££££s in the bank. It's a short career as a footballer and not everyone gets to be rich for all their days.

Tell that to the countless amount of academy kids that have signed for "big" clubs and never played a game at that level. If your good enough, you'll get there in time

The "failed" academy kids could choose to play at lower levers but don't for whatever reason. Fail at any prem academy would walk into most teams in champ and below.

Thats not really true, look at the 2 leeds lads that went to Chelsea, can't even remember their name and they supposedly had a massive future. Went to a prem club, failed and now play deep into the football league, no one at champ level is looking at them thinking they could do a job let alone them walk into a team here. These 2 are not special circumstances either as this happens constantly, the most important thing for young players is to be playing football regularly and if you don't have a manager willing to give that youth a good run then that youth will fade away.

If Diego Poyet joins a team like Stoke or West Brom then imo. he will have wasted an opportunity.

All true. Your forgetting one important ingredient Josh, the dreaded agent. These ****ers make their money purely from moving players around clubs. By and large they are not even ex footballers so know little about the game except what they can squeeze out of it. They have a huge influence over these young lads and even their families. Most will jump through whatever hoops the agents tell them to. Just look at anelkas career if you want an example of a player being constantly moved about by his agents. These guys in general have done as much harm to football as sky
