Defender Jason Pearce has re-signed for Portsmouth, the club he left as a 19-year-old. Peace, now aged 23, moved to south coast neighbours Bournemouth in search of first-team football after coming through Pompey's youth ranks. He caught the eye at Dean Court, not least last season when he skippered the Cherries to the League One play-offs. But the centre-half has now returned to Fratton Park to prove himself at the club where his career began, snubbing approaches from several other clubs. He said: âWhen the opportunity arose to come back to Pompey I was delighted. âI was here as a young lad but didnât get the opportunity to play first-team football â thatâs why I left for Bournemouth. âI trained under Harry Redknapp and met some nice people â Iâve got some great memories of my first time here. âBut now Iâve shown what I can do and hopefully I can continue to do that back at Pompey. âI heard there were a few clubs interested and then Pompey came out of the blue. Once I heard about that and the bid was accepted then I just wanted to get the deal done as soon as possible. Itâs the right club for me. âThe managerâs a really good guy. Iâm sure Iâll get to know him a bit better over the pre-season. His plans and ambitions for the club sound really good. âNow I canât wait to get out there on the pitch and play with all the lads â Iâm buzzing. âItâll be amazing to play at a packed Fratton Park â something Iâve dreamed of. The fans are amazing here and still get behind you even when youâre not doing so well. âThis is a massive club and hopefully we can progress. Weâre in the Championship at the moment but Iâm sure weâll be striving to get back into the Premier League.â
Good move by Pompey. Just the sort of long term player we need to be signing. He's done his proper apprenticeship down at Dean Court and was part of the best Cherries side in a long while. Now for a few more.....
"It'll be amazing to play at a packed Fratton Park-something I've dreamed of" Just as well Saints are visiting, really, or he might have been very disappointed.
A good move for club and player. Four years ago, at 19 he'd never have been able to force his way into Pompey's first team. Now he's had playing experience and been well nurtured at Bournemouth he is ready to return to Fratton Park a far better and experienced player
Bitchy? I resemble those remarks!!! Joshing aside, looks a good signing to me, and one closer to the magic "11"
First cash signing in almost 2 years apparently as well. That means Cotterill can't moan about squad size and it being 'hard' all next season.
About time we signed some young British talent from the lower leagues, i look forward to more of the same. Jordan Rhodes from Huddersfield please.
"Four years ago, at 19 he'd never have been able to force his way into Pompey's first team." ------ Actually, his age had nothing to do with it, it was all the Johnny Foreigners, that got you relegated, so loved by Harry, that prevented Pearce from getting in the first team. A good signing though.
