Third summer arrival confirmed. Bristol City FC have secured the signing of highly-rated Stevenage winger Luke Freeman for an undisclosed fee. The 22-year-old arrives on a three-year contract following a successful medical at the Failand training complex. Manager Steve Cotterill said: “He’s someone we’ve been keeping tabs on for some time and I’m delighted we’ve been able to bring Luke on board. “I’ve wanted to add a left-sided player to the squad and Luke can actually play in a variety of positions. He can play on the left, on the right and cut in, or play in a midfield three. “In truth it’s probably going to take six to 12 months to work out his best position, but that’ll come by working with him in training. “He’s a good, young, exciting player. He’s an excellent addition to the football club for the short term and long term.” Freeman spent his youth career with Charlton Athletic and Gillingham before signing for Arsenal in 2008. The tricky winger gained Football League experience with Yeovil Town and Stevenage and left the Emirates without making a first team appearance for the Gunners. His form at Stevenage prompted the then League One club to turn his loan spell permanent in January 2012 and that season Boro reached the play-off semi-finals, narrowly losing out to Sheffield United. Freeman stood out in both of Stevenage’s games against City last season, scoring against Cotterill’s side during a 3-1 victory for the Robins at Broadhall Way. Despite relegation to League Two, Stevenage triggered a contract extension for Freeman this summer, but the winger now has the opportunity to rejoin League One with City as Cotterill continues rebuilding his squad for a 2014/15 promotion push
