I've just been out and bought an inflatable ET doll for Diana's Shrine. I plan to drop it off there when i'm down in London.

I'm satisfied with my beel levels.

There was a guy got out his car the other night in EK because a bus was blocking him off on purpose. He was trying to skip everyone at roadworks and jump in later <grr> He got out his car, shouted at the bus driver and then kicked the bus a couple of times <laugh> After that, nobody let him back in and he ended up further back than where he was.

    I agree.

I'm surprised no **** on this thread has come up with the "tourism" defence of the monarchy. Or mibby there is no **** left daft enough to even raise it. <laugh>

It is truly a spasticated defence, France has far more tourists and they took their Royals nappers off centuries ago.

It's a ludicrous defence but you can hardly use France as a comparison. It's a far nicer country with much better people in it and better weather so of course they'll have more tourists.

Scotland, and Edinburgh especially, attract a lot of tourists but they come to see the likes of Holyrood Palace and the Royal Yacht Britannia. If the entire Royal Family were wiped out in a mysterious mass poisoning tomorrow I doubt the tourists would stop coming.

Exactly. The edifices remain and the tourists will still come to look with or without a monarchy.

Tourists seem to like nice looking buildings. No ma cup o' tea but that's besides the point.

Over 80% of Britons(8) believe that the royal family provides “a significant amount of revenue for Britain through tourism”

but there is little evidence for it.Chester Zoo, Stonehenge and the Roman Baths (below) are all more successful tourist attractions thanWindsor Castle, the only occupied royal residence to attract visitors in large numbers. If it was included in the Association of Leading Visitor Attractions (ALVA) list of top attractions it would come in at number 24.(9)
