Richard Dunne hadn't played in 18 months upon signing for us. You're point is still very valid though. I said at the time of Dunne signing I'd be happy with the signing if we got 20 games out of him, the same applies to Rio. It is not about the signing of Rio, but what follows next. I'll judge our transfer business on the 1st of September.
In truth, they broke the mould when they made SWP ............... nobody but nobody could fall that far from grace, again. In life, some records are never meant to be challenged, let alone broken. To my days end, I can never understand how a player of his capabilities cannot even warrant a start for a Championship game. Any decent person would of put in a transfer request or hang up my boots.
We've already got two extremely experienced centre-halves. Are we really going to add this pointless vanity signing as if it's something we've never tried before. Rio Ferdinand is not a QPR sort of player and never will be. It just doesn't fit. However, more importantly, he's an injury-prone useless ****.
Yes, unfortunately you may be proved to be 100% correct, however as a lifelong Queens Park Rangers fan, I reserve the right to hope that the 'law of averages' finally points in our favor, that there is a football god, that good things really do come to good people / clubs ................ and that we finally get a ''win' with buying an old tired, injury pronged, burnt out has-beens who are looking for one last payday. As a club, we could be forgiven ......... or deluded, whichever takes your fancy, and hope that this 'last' big purchase ( I said 'last' with my fingers crossed ) really does turn out to be a happy time for player, fan and club and that he really was worth the $$$$$$$$$$.
My worry, is the speed with which he took up TV work. Its easy to lulled into a "post-football" career mentality, and not be focussed about keeping up your fitness regime.
not voted yet but this is where I am leaning if nelsen has a **** time managing I would take him back though who is younger rio or ryan
I really don't think that will be an issue. He is a good pro and he will be as fit as he can possibly be for us. But how fit he can possibly be at his age and after his injuries, I do not know.
I think I read somewhere that he has his personal fitness trainer with him in Brazil to keep fit before the new season.
And as of now we will have 3 or 4 of these ageing, slow CB's with their bags of experience advising each other (and Ned poor sod!). Clint, Dunne, Rio, and Hughes maybe - 1 Clint with his new year would be plenty, 2 with Dunne and his new Year -Maximum. We don't seem to learn from our previous mistakes.
were knackered when he came to us puts in a shift though which is the point I was clumsily trying to make not so sure rio will
CBs are able to get away with a lack of pace far more than any other position. JT has never had pace.
I much prefer one of the 2 CB's to have some speed about them. We have got Ned but for me it would be much better to bring in another CB with Ned's speed, plus good passing ability and able to read the game, or as many of these attributes as we can get, than still yet another slowing, ageing injury prone CB, when we have more than enough of these already. Solid as Clint and Dunne were, there were times in the Championship when players with a bit of speed about them were leaving them for dead, often it looked really embarassing for them. Both them and Rio are going to have much bigger problems against PL strikers.
Yes, thats exactly what I was going to say. Shows he is still committed to being fit for the new season.
Richard Dunne doesn't have a chronic back injury which has incrementally reduced his appearances every season though. The "0" game season was the one blot on his copy book; throughout his career he'd been pretty much injury free. Rio's a crock http://www.theguardian.com/football/blog/2011/oct/14/rio-ferdinand-manchester-united
