Only been to Salisbury once (the Steve Cauthen debut day) and thought it a good and fair course. Certainly a pleasant country course. It used to be a favourite place for top Wiltshire/Berkshire trainers to start off their 2yos, and also a place where maiden 3yo staying types resumed their careers. (Dick Hern favoured the course and Remand made his debut there and Brigadier Gerard ran his second start there...but there are many others from many others).
Prestige-wise it's gone down the toilet in the last 25 years (but then so has Newbury) and there are less maidens for 2yo and 3yos and more low-grade handicaps. It lost its Guineas trial day a long time ago but that was always a bit dodgy because of the weather.
