I have been supporting KL throughout and am as sure as someone not ITK can be that she is here for the long haul. I am just questioning how people say a club is worth £200m when 4 of our players could be sold for £100m and the rest of the squad sold for another £100m at least???
Because the "market values" of those players isn't close to the values we could get for them from other clubs. Not that I'm suggesting for a second that we're asset stripping, but the sense behind asset stripping is that you can sell individual parts for more money than you'd get for them if you sold them as part of the whole package. A player's value is determined simply by the value of his contract, not by how much some clubs are willing to buy him for. Luke Shaw wouldn't add anything like £34m to the club's market value. Far, far less than that, in fact.
An accurate "market value," as you put it, would take into account trends and nuances. Considering the subjective nature of the value of a football player, I think the market value for a player like Shaw would be much higher than you might think based simply on common sense. At the end of the day, he's a commodity...his stock is high and there are no shortage of people wanting to invest. As such, like any other commodity, his "market value" is sky high.
What he's technically worth based on the value of his contract has little bearing on what potential buyers might be willing to spend on him, for the reasons you just said. Similarly, what the club is technically worth based on the values of all its assets has little bearing on what potential buyers might be willing to pay for it. The club may be worth £200m, but that doesn't mean potential buyers won't think it's worth spending £400m on it.
All this talk of offers (true or imagined) does suggest that rumours of a done deal are off the mark.
I still think it will happen, I still think it is all but agreed. But since Koeman has come in it has changed a bit. The problem with getting info from people close to the club is anything can change. A done deal can become not a sure thing. But if I was to put money on it I would put it on Shaw being in a Utd Shirt.
I agree. If I were a mercenary businessman with £200m handy and no care for what anyone else thinks moral free and probably far from UK I would see a massive profit here. Offer £250m, sell the whole squad, then sell the club for £40m with nothing but a stadium, youth team BUT the money coming in from TV rights and I think I would make £50m or so in the space of 1-2 months. 20% profit. That doesn't mean I think this is what is happening nor that I think it could happen but I think the club worth is what we could realistically get for players (assets) plus what the fixed assets are worth. For example Shaw is £30m because we are seeing that is what people will pay for him now in reality. We know full well that if we said that Lallana is available for £25m, Lovren for £20m, Rodriguez for £15m, Chambers for £10m, Wanyama for £12m, Morgan for £20m and saif first come first served they would be bought within a month. Pisses me off when other clubs that have massive debt think we are worth a pittance. We are and have been for half a decade one of the best run clubs in the UK with incredibly low debt for the position we are in and to say we are worth less than Fulham were sold for is ridiculous. So I say we are currently worth £300m because anyone who bought us could realistically regain at least that money within a year by selling all of the 'assets' off. Now to move on from that I hope KL stays here for 10+ years and I hope that Luke, Adam and Lovren are kept here because we don't need the money, although I think if we can get £30m+ for Luke that will benefit us more than actually keeping the player.
Manchester United refuse to pay over the odds for Shaw: http://www.manchestereveningnews.co...anchester-united-transfers-luke-shaw-7320591? Manchester United HAVE NOT offered £34million for Shaw. So Beefy, are you so sure he will join United now?
Hate to be that guy, but this report is no more trustworthy than the reports that say they have offered £34m.
Come on now Tom, do you believe everything in the media? It's kind of telling something is happening as Guan 2.0(who seems to have good connects at Saints) can't talk about it.
@BigAdamSport "I understand Luke Shaw's move to #mufc is getting closer & that he's due to have a medical in North-West very soon #saintsfc".
