Apparently we've offered 34 million for Luke Shaw

Fair enough but I don't think the statement applies to Suarez because 40 million (and a pound!!) is not 'massive money' in the context of the clubs involved and the relative status of the players. Suarez is a world star and 40 million (plus a pound!) is less than you got for Torres and only a little more than you paid for Carroll! 30 million plus for an 18 year left back is massive money, especially for club like Southampton (without trying to put them down).

If United can bully the likes of Spurs, Arsenal and Everton (and even we sold Mata - though it was us cashing in) into selling them their best players, not really sure how Southampton expect to be an exception.

This is turning into "all the big clubs gang up on Southampton" thread. Pathetic.

I think it's more a case of the big clubs being involved in enough of these big deals over the years to have some valid opinions on the matter.

I think it would be great if Southampton could hang on to all their stars. History and logic suggests otherwise however.

I have seen and read a fair bit about ManU's chase for Luke Shaw, along with Chelsea. Has it ever been considered by fans of both clubs that Southampton don't actually want to sell, at any sensible price, or that they need the money..? They don't.

Bid more, and the price will just go up. It has so far. Chelsea have learned that Saints would rather have the player. This applies to all the young key players Southampton have on long contracts. Either they will stay or Saints will have the shirt off someone's back if they are stupid enough to pay the ridiculous price. If it's the latter, then Southampton will be able to buy two equal players for the same money. This isn't really about Shaw [or Lallana for that matter]. It's about big clubs lording it over smaller clubs. Well just once in a blue moon a smaller club doesn't budge, because it is plenty rich enough. And besides, there are plenty more LBs around. One or two of them better than Shaw, and cheaper.

I'm not trying to be provocative. It is just my view as a Southampton supporter. I thought you'd like to read something else, and from a different perspective.

Anyway, have a better season, next time out. :)

We like to buy english and buy them young so we get great careers out of them.

I think Shaw joins United and has a brilliant career, he joins chelsea and 3 years on hes playing for Brighton.

However I agree if you can keep him then do so. £30million is a lot of money and the wages being banded about are mental.

what did people think would happen when the television money spiked? buy more players for the same price?

There will be distressed sellers about who will still take old money for a while but the adjustment will happen and it will all end up in player pockets.

Surely the wage demands are dictated by the player and his agent though, not the selling club.
So if thats the case, Shaw needs to fire his agent.
Unless Man United have offered those wages, in which case they should fire themselves.

  15. My comment was clearly about last summer. Whatever happens this summer has zero effect on that. However, if you've managed to clear up (in your own head ) a already clear situation (for everyone else) then I must congratulate you on such an achievement, well done young man <applause>

  19. As dirty as it feels, I agree <yikes>

Although it didn't turn out too bad for Ashley Cole, Frank Lampard or John Terry, even Joe Cole <whistle>

You really can't compare the two situations IMHO .

BTW agree about him staying for another couple of years , and financial comment .
