IF the Mail is correct, and I have my doubts, this is not the worst signing we could make. Rio is undoubtedly an experienced defender at the highest level. He will bring experience to our team and has the leadership qualities to inspire the next generation. That alone can't be bad. All in all, I'm in favour and, as someone mentioned earlier in the thread, let's just wait until the squad is complete before we jump to ANY conclusion, myself included.
I can't make my mind up His experience, knowledge and winner instinct would be brilliant at training. He would compliment Ned perfectly. TF is not going to throw money at him. A short contract with an injury clause. He is 35, but not with a Boswanker mentality. I will support him if he plays in the Hoops.
Sky Sources understand Rio Ferdinand has agreed a deal to join Queens Park Rangers on a free transfer after leaving Manchester United earlier this summer.
Well Redknapp out anyway for me, as of last February. He's still not got us playing in well over a year now. As you point out there are other CB's out there. 1 experienced CB is fine but we already have Clint and Dunne, plus Hughes maybe? Can't see how we can sanely be keeping more than max Clint, if Rio is coming in, but I read Dunne has already been given another year!
If that is your case for not buying Rio, it is a poor one. We can't expect those three to keep us up next season however good their attitude is.
We only have about 14 first team players i would imagine we are going to bring in 8-10 maybe some in on loans.
Think you misunderstand me Jack. I agree those 3 can't keep us up- we need at least 1 new CB, but someone younger and quicker, who can pass a bit too, and that's not Rio. It makes some sense if Rio is coming as a replacement for Dunne (and Hughes), but I'm not sure he is an improvement on Dunne, and he'll probably cost more, so I'm hoping it is bullsh*t.
We should be safe unless TF extends redknapp's contract! Oh crap, that thought has just made it worse. We still need 2 new CBs, Dunne hill and Rio can only really be counted as one or maybe 2 as at least one of theme going to be injured or too knackered all the time.
Methinks that if/when his team find it a lot harder going in the prem (as we did), old Andy might not be visiting our board as often.......Let's hope he has a pair of cajones, and takes it like a man
Absolutely. He is full of that confidence we had in the first season. Top 10 finish anyone? No? Didn't think so.
I'll just say this. Grifter, Queens and I have appeared to be singing off the same hymn sheet for the last year. We think Harry's done a very good job up to this point and hopefully we can push on. Once again, I'm with the two lads on this one. If this singing does come off, I will question whether Harry is the man for us after all. I'd be very disappointed and I'd lose all faith in Tony's word. He said only a couple of weeks ago when asked about Rio Ferdinand and Frank Lampard that he wasn't going down that route again and that he'd learned his lesson. If he allows Redknapp go ahead with this, can we ever believe a word that comes out of his mouth again? I hope and pray that it was just a slow news day yesterday and some Journo wanted to fill his column with summat.
