Ned, but he'd have hill at lb so an injury to Ned will leave us with the slowest and oldest back 4 in PL history. Wed be conceding three plus goals with Simpson, Dunne, Rio, hill as our back line, double that score for the big teams.
I'm struggling to believe this. It goes against everything Fernandes and Barton said last season. I'll believe it if and when he signs, but the bloke although a good player in his day is 36 in November. His best days are well behind him. I feel that he is using us as a vehicle to fund him while he pursues a media career. QPR is becoming like a 'Battersea Dogs Home' for stray footballers who can't find anywhere else that will have them.
My we are getting picky these days aren't we? We need a mixture of experience and youth as has been said. Great player in his day. If he was still that player do you really think we would be able to sign him? His positive outlook and influence could be just the ticket imo.
Where is this youth then? He doesn't trust Yun so plays a massively inferior hill at lb. Any young player is loaned out. There is no mixture, we have the oldest squad in the 92 teams and this isn't going to make us younger.
Football/business reasons aside, I'd just be so unexcited about buying Rio Ferdinand. What a boring, unimaginative, sloppy signing it would be. The sort that you'd expect your average moron on the street to make if they were given 10billion & a football club. He is and always will be a man Utd player; he's been there since he was 22. He'll never have blue + white running through his veins. We've seen him a million times for England, and countless more in domestic competitions. I don't want to see him again... I want to see someone new & interesting at the club- an Ashley Williams or Ron Vlar (say).
Good 2011 guardian article someone posted on WATRB about how he's falling to bits: http://www.theguardian.com/football/blog/2011/oct/14/rio-ferdinand-manchester-united
UTR, you've left me with squat else to say except ..........Game, Set and Match, thank you linesmen, thank you ball boys.
Whilst i agree with you point, it would only make sense if Hill & Dunne were gone. I think Hill has got another year hasnt he? Like i said, Rio alongside Ned might work......I'll just be gutted after giving the Leicester fools stick for signing Upson...
Don't worry yourself about that, Queens, if they hadn't signed Upson, there'd still be plenty to give em stick about.
LEDLEY KING! Harry has announced he's persuaded King to come out of retirement and play every other game for us. "He's a trific, trific player" said Harry, "bags of experience and there isn't a better defender in the country. He's fully signed up to BUPA!"...
Good post. Of all the has-been names that have been touted around since our promotion, this for me has been the least attractive, but ever the most likely. If it happens then I'm prepared to support him. We have benefited hugely from Nelsen and Dunne in the past couple of seasons; I hope Ferdinand isn't a Samba! The calls for 'Harry Out!' on the basis of one signing is disappointing. Why not wait to see what the whole 2014/15 squad looks like and how it performs before making that judgement? A blend of youth and experience seems like a good way forward to me.
Rio Ferdinand agrees to join QPR By Clean Sheets All Round on June 24, 2014 Rio Ferdinand Former Manchester United defender and England captain Rio Ferdinand is on his way to Queens Park Rangers within the next 24 hours according to reports. The 35-year old was released from his contract with Manchester United this summer and will reunite with former West Ham manager Harry Redknapp. Rio Ferdinand had spent 12 years with Manchester United following his record transfer fee for a defender at the time when Sir Alex Ferguson brought him to Old Trafford from Leeds United. The centre-back had been strongly-linked with a move to Queens Park Rangers for the past few weeks, as have former England teammates Ashley Cole and Frank Lampard. Queens Park Rangers were dramatically promoted from the Championship playoffs last season with a last-minute winner from Bobby Zamora against Derby County. Redknappâs side had been widely expected to run away with the league at the start of last season before finishing fourth and going up via a trip to Wembley. The London-based side are one of the richest teams in world football through backing from their chairman and had an estimated 6x the salary of Derby County with Bobby Zamora reportedly earning 30% of the whole oppositionâs squad. The Daily Mail reports that Rio Ferdinand will take a pay-cut from what he was earning with the Red Devils, although the Rs are known to be generous with the wages, overpaying poor performers like José Bosingwa, Joey Barton and Park Ji-Sung. Rio Ferdinand won the Premier League on six occasions during his time at Manchester United, as well as lifting the FA Cup and UEFA Champions League on one occasion also. He jumped ship from Leeds United two seasons before they were relegated in 2003-04. They had slid from 5th to 15th the season immediately after Ferdinandâs departure to Manchester United Ferdinand played 81 times for England, scoring 3 goals. He was part of three England World Cup sides but never made it to a European Championship
This board goes round in circles. I remember the same slagging off , of Dunne BEFORE he even played for our club. Nothing like giving someone a chance to prove themselves eh lads
Daily Telegraph now reporting this too. They don't run rumours. Seems like it's happening. Why on earth did Swiss Tony make a statement along the lines of 'we've learnt our lessons' and then sign a 35 year old defender? Tony needs to engage his brain not his mouth
yeah such short memories you lot cant you remember how well the last united cast off park played for us
Got f**k all to do with it bruv, but if it makes you feel better then go ahead. The sad thing is, there will be loads on her praying he plays ****, so they can be proved right and shout 'I told you so'. Personally I'd rather he played well and was an asset to the team.....but what do I know, eh.
Agreed Stainsey! It's one signing, and to be fair to Rio he's no Bosingwa and has his pride. For experience, you can't doubt him. So the only lesson to show is the contract package negotiated by the management/board. Now it's moving on to other signings that need to be sorted for pre-season and improving the spine. Lot of outward bound players and wages, so plenty of scope!
I read a post by another guy on another site about this that had a point what he asked was if anyone had thought Harry had something more in mind.? Ok rio is past his best - agreed but he's never been anything but a good proffesional, and the experience and attitude he may bring to the training pitch and senior team may be a massive bonus esp when mentoring Ned, yun, Simpson etc. I think we all know what we are gonna get with Rio. his application to training etc has never been in question (well apart from once when he missed a test ). Personally im underwhelmed but I'l give him my suppoort when he pulls on the shirt unless he gives me a reason not too. In past years, nelson, hill and even dunne have done a decent job. I hope he does the same if true
