So after a day of drinking and eating, he washes his hair and has a shave? I'm sure there must be more too. If Carlsberg did sellouts...
The adverts are so cringeworthy. At least there will be no dodgy penalty related adverts post world cup. Though i've heard Luke Shaw has been approached by Boots for their 3 for 2 range
People tell me that there have been some good games in this tournament, but I just cannot get interested. I lost any interest I had when Rickie was sold and rumours about Luke and Adam started. I suppose England doing well might have increased my interest, but I wasn't even up for the Uruguay game when we still had a chance. Just shows how important Saints are to me. Will only watch this game to see how Luke does against internationals. However, I haven't joined the anti-Roy feeling. Any of the 4 teams could have got out of this group....just a missed opportunity...we would never have got much further. This was always going to be about the future, not this tournament. I think we should aim for stability and stick with Hodgson until after the Euros.
By the time the Euros come round, the England squad could be virtually all Saints current and ex-players. In fact, they might just save time and play Southampton.
But Roy has stuck with Rooney and Gerrard, he's played Wellbeck despite him bring crap, hasn't started Lallana, Lambert has had only 5 minutes... It's about Roy giving into media pressure just like every other manager before him. We should be good enough for a point against Uruguay ffs.
I'm a bit anti Roy. Forgetting the team he put out and the lack of tactics for one minute, it goes beyond that. How many games did he and his minions attend last year? And yet he still takes Johnson, Henderson, Wilshire and Jones. Chamberlain was injured from the start etc etc. Rooney will obviously play well into his 40's as no manager seems to have the nerve to drop him. Of all the attacking players in the squad, he does at least come across as a team player but that apart, he has been poor….again. And why even bother to take Lambert if you aren't going to play him for 30 minutes against Uruguay when the game was crying out for his coolness and ability to bring others into the game. Not exactly one for the future either.
Would you not have taken Henderson, Wilshere and Jones? Also Rooney might not have had a good game against Italy, but he was our best player against Uruguay. And that's not exactly a rare occurrence.
No. I agree about Rooney (although that says more about how poor the others were than how good he was), but the team would be different if he wasn't there. Whenever he plays, it always seems to be about him. I think we should start over without him. I think we would see more cohesion.
They were score-able chances but they were by no means sitters. He did a hell of a lot of work all over the pitch anyway.
You cannot afford to miss from a yard out in a must win game. But the 2nd miss was the worst. He hit it straight at the keeper when he had the whole goal to aim for. And his job is to score goals, not go running all round the pitch.
I don't know about that. Sturridge's job is to score goals, Rooney is to link the team together - and there's only so much of a job you can do then when everyone else plays so poorly. And for what it's worth, I don't blame him for the headed miss, the way he reached the ball there wasn't really any other direction he could hit it.
You're missing the World Cup Fran. It only happens every four years. Forget Saints for a while, forget England after tonight, try and enjoy the tournament. I've heard it said that it matters more when there's money on it, so I strongly advise having a decent few bob on Argentina at 4/1, with perhaps a small saver on France at 9/1, then you'll probably have someone to cheer on til the final. Fully agree with everything you say about Roy by the way. Now is not the time to look for scapegoats, now is the time to build for the future.
I found myself wanting to blame him, but that says more about me, the extent that the British media have focussed on Rooney, and how I have reacted to it. He's not the tallest, and his run was slightly miss-timed, but if I criticised him for his headed miss then that would be being ultra harsh. I do believe he should have scored instead of hitting the ball straight at the keeper though. And why has it become unfashionable to wallop the ball with every fibre of your being when only 6 yards out..? Yes, I know the ball could still go over the bar from that range, but it's unlikely. A controlled finish just gives a keeper time to sense where a player is intending to put the ball, plus it comes at a much slower speed, therefore time to react. I've seen it countless times from England and English players [JayRod, for a good example]. Suarez hit a slightly bobbling ball with everything his 50% fit body had. Result, a goal.
