Holland and Chile are resting players. That's different, they're still in the competition.

Spain are, like us, looking to the future I guess.

I don't object to Woy changing the team. In fact he bloody well should.

What boils my piss is when teams are picked for non-footballing reasons.

Like to give everyone a game.

Or 'cos it's Lampards last tournament and he's been a loyal servant.

That type of reasoning is just plain wrong.

If we want to ever compete at the highest level then the bloke in charge needs to be a hard headed, stubborn, professional bastard who isn't swayed by sentiment.

    Only not Capello obviously.

Jones, Shaw and Barkley are all starting.

Lampard will be playing his last game, Spain did the same playing Villa today, I don't really think it will matter who we play, Costa Rica are better than us and the damage has already been done.

They are not. They've been magnificent in their 2 games, but they're bloody we'll not better than us. That's like saying Sheffield United are better than villa.

They are not better than you. We finished above them in qualifying and beat them easily. They are having a good couple games but they are certainly not better than you. Mexico went into melt down durring qualifying but this Mexican team now is better than Costa Rica. They are the 3rd best team in CONCOCAF and there is no way the 3rd best team in CONCOCAF is better than England.

We have qualifying games for the Euro's in less than 3 months. Lallana Henderson Milner Wilshere need all the experience they can get to learn how to play together

its bullshit that he is treating this game as a pat on the back to his boys ,

Again players are getting a free ride based on their reputation , service and club they play for .

If I was Rooney I'd be thinking if I'd have scored the couple of sitters I'd missed then this game would mean something and I'd have earned my place.

    He did.

Rooney wasn't tracking back on the left so he put Welbeck there instead, who'd been working tirelessly on the other side. It made perfect sense.

For Welbeck to then let him down by not following his man in the exact way Rooney had been doing (only once but it was enough for them to score) was unmitigatable.

Can't argue with that. Hopefully Lampard's inclusion won't be at the expense of any of the youngsters.

Costa Rica have only got one player in any of the top European leagues. They weren't better than us two week agos, and two results doesn't change that. They're still a plucky underdog.

    This.

I didn't want him to start either Italy or Uruguay, he didn't deserve it for me at all.

Are you saying the only chances we had were two and Rooney missed them both? The chance he did take, if it wasnt for **** defending, we'd be going into tomorrows game with every chance.

Bet you'd have played him then?

I'm saying that any player who misses 2 great chances and under performs to his usual standards, has no right to be pissed off at being excluded from what is effectively a pointless friendly.

And yes, I would have played him if the game meant anything as he has the potential to be our most influential player.

    Allow me to retort.

Why didn't he do something that worked.

Swapping one centre forward to play left mid for another centre forward is sublime.

Honestly, it really is a stroke of genius.

    Oh hang on.

Get rid of the useless owl looking buffoon.

Its not a pointless friendly though. The rebuilding should start now and Rooney is part of the future at least until the Euro's in two years time.
