Spend a couple of quid getting someone who knows what they're doing to fit it.

Otherwise you'll spend the next few years looking at something that's a total dog's arse.

Just an on-suite and family bathroom, neither that big to be fair. I know what your saying about tiles, but I think Vinyl has come on a long, looking just as good as tile (even if not the feel underfoot) in the last few years. Plus, I have had to take tiles up once before so just some future planning as I don't intend to move for a long time.

There is some nice vinyl out there now. Not like it used to be. Some really nice ones that look like floor boards. Thing about vinyl tiles is they can lift at the edges. Although easier to replace one or two than a full room of vinyl I guess.

    Best bit of advice yet.

I tried laying some vinyl tiles in my bathroom not so long back.

It looked absolutely ****e, my 8 year old daughter would have struggled to do a worse job.

After about 3 months I got fed up of looking at it and had a whole new bathroom fitted.

    Buy cheap, buy twice.

    That's my motto.

We have vinyl laminated floor planks in one of our rooms. Makes the floor a lot quieter than actual wood laminate. Also warmer than wood laminate. Very very easy to fit with sharp knife and good measuring gear.

Mine too. Don't skimp on the fastenings. Mine was done with a staple gun aboput every 10 cms around the boards, then across the boards too.

Even then, we've got one section where it lifts slightly.

What your vinyl? Don't bloody staple it, get the glue spray! Just around the edges, don't stick much in the middle if you ever plan on lifting it up!

Superb advice on this DIY thread. I cannot add anything that's not already here, so I'll summerize.

Sharpe knife. Stanley - no substitutes.
3mm plywood down only if base is uneven.
Templates for door jambs, sink pedestals, etc are essential.
    Always adhesive never metal fastenings
    Allow for expansion and contraction.
    Beading enhances appearance.

I'd also consider laying Swedish reclaimed antique pine extra wide floorboards down. Varnish up a treat and incredibly durable.

Ours have been down 10 years and although I've decorated the bathroom about 5 times I've never touched the floor.

    Still looks lovely.

Mind you, I did have to reinforce the floor before laying them down. Heavy they are.

It's pretending to be a shed though Ben. Plus, I know we shouldn't expect a woman to understand these things, but Charlie is also calling it a shed.

    It's wrong.

Where do we draw the line? The next step is blokes drinking fruit based alcoholic drinks and pretending its manly while having their eyebrows done.

Spiders and cobwebs were invented so women don't go in sheds.

About 3 years ago my mrs decided she couldnt live without Karndean luxury vinyl floor tiles. I went along with it for the peace. Oh they are ok if they get soaked, last a lifetime etc etc.

Bloke came and fitted them, so i said they're ok if the washer floods the kitchen then? Like **** they are he said. ha ha ha

Last a lifetime though dont they? Them ones in front of your patio doors, nah the sun'll curl em up. ha ha ha.

They're no better than them sticky back ones you got from Boyes years ago. Except they cost a fortune.....

Ahhhrg....Maurice is too late for you to go hire an industrial steam stripper ? Please don't try stripping them walls without one, it'll make a hellishly head **** of a job, almost a delight, and they only charged a tenner. Heed my advice Maurice, heed my advice. Phew, i hope i'm not too late.

Also, never ever attempt home improvement projects with having the radio on the whole time. I'm not going tell you which station to use, that's entirely up to you. But the radio is an absolute must.

Good luck Maurice, were all behind you pal <ok>
