BP says "Joe Gomez will do pre-season with us"... Good news, but he needs to be signed up quickly, or we end up with another Poyet situation... Not much else that we don't already know... "Ambition is to do better than last season" Oh dear!!! Anything worse will lead us straight into League 1...
The current situation is that Poyet and Morrison have both had contract offers but they haven't signed them. This meeting was arranged weeks ago, so i think you will see some signings announced by the end of the week.
Two Bob - "the idea is to do better than last season" As stirring battlecry's go, that is not exactly up there with Agincourt, is it If the Club had any communications nous - and we all know that it hasn't- they would have linked today's press conference to a good news announcement to generate a bit of excitement. Something like, 'good morning ladies and gentleman (Rich Cawley & his Mum), I am pleased to announce that my first action as Charlton Head Coach is to say how pleased I am that Diego Poyet has signed a new, long term deal with us today". Instead we get a succession of platitudes in pigeon English. People will continue to be cynical/disillusioned until we see hard evidence of quality investment in our team.
Are you sure he didn't say "The idea is to do even better than last season"? (sounds of whooping and hollering from the assembled minnions). As I said on another thread, communication is not Roly's forte, and I don't think it ever will be.
I was more impressed than his initial interview. With regards to last season, considering our final position an improvement has to be mid table - which I think is a realistic goal and one I think we would all accept. The more you hear about Buyens, he does look like a good signing on paper. Belgium journo's have been very kind in their reports, and Liege fans are all saying they wish they hadn't let him go. He's by no means a saviour, but he's a good start.
Did Roley say anything in this press conference..? I didn't notice anything from the initial reported quotes ...
Actually far more optimistic now after the interview... couldn't have been any pessimistic myself anyway. IF by some miracle we sign onto Poyet and Morro, a couple signings and I will be very optimistic of a mid table finish (yes not exactly ambitious but better than last year). Getting excited now... bring on pre season
Peeters said he hopes to get Morrison & Poyet signed up, and if that happens expects to get 2 or 3 more players in... Is that enough..? It does look like quite a few of our youngsters are going to be thrown into the deep end...
If Poyet signs a new contract I will be happier than a Scotsman who has just found 10p on the pavement.
Nothing has changed for me, I believed Roley would improve the team in the short term, which wouldn't be difficult after the lack of investment in the squad by the previous lot, and I still maintain that his enthusiasm to showcase youngsters is for one main purpose, and has very little to do with an ambition to achieve sustained success at Charlton...
So do I get ''Foreigner'' or Buyens on the back of my shirt? IWABT - definitely not enough. He doesn't mention anything about wingers which is a worry - I don't want to see Cousins or the Harriotts out on the right.
I've now seen a clip on SSN, and he was asked how many more new signings... He said 3 to 4, then changed it to 2 to 3 in the same sentence...
We all want to see Charlton sign good players now, but does this include 4-5 Network/loans ? No, IMO. If they do well they go straight back to Standard Liege or get flooged on quick. If they do badly, they join the likes of Thuram, Koc, Nego, Petrucci, Reza, AA and Polish Pete is an ever lengthening queue. The little Englander/Jonny Foreigner argument is plain daft. It comes down to your ambition and vision of CAFC. Mine is a lot bigger than us being a tumble drier for Roly's dirty smalls.
I assume that means 2-4 signings plus some loans? It goes against what he said previously in his interviews where he mentioned we were after players pretty much everywhere! This is where I worry RD is having more influence than the club lets on.
