Everyone missed broads hat trick today then

Decent tally and a bit of a collapse for Sri Lanka so next innings should be interesting

Robson 98 not out at tea

I'd forgotten how annoying boycott can be mouthing on about the lad being bricking it at tea and he'd surely be clashing at it and the player just defended and took 1 run in last two overs!

    Going well today

Sri Lankan bowling is a bit different to the Aussies or Saffas but none the less, nice to see us scoring a few runs for a change.

scoring seems very slow so in the end we need to up the run rate and build a big lead.

it looks very much like england have really screwed the pooch here.

the moment the second inning started they were bowling short and the pitch according to all biased commentators stopped doing anything.

SL 270/5 with lead of 162 means england need a bit of a collapse from here to have a realistic shot...

todays wicket came from pitching it up... why the f were england bowling short?

    ooooh here we go.

    old bbc coverage in work

    WICKET - Prasad c Root b Plunkett 0 (SL 277-7)
Dhammika Prasad fends off his first ball, an absolute snorter, and is caught at short third man as Joe Root races in and takes it at arm's length. Plunkett is on a hat-trick!

    12:13:
    WICKET - Chandimal c Ballance b Plunkett 7 (SL 277-6)
Plunkett returns in place of Broad and after a single from Mathews, he digs one in short, Chandimal goes for the bait, hooks and is caught on the deep square leg boundary. A well-executed plan.

    We'll lose this one.

If we can't beat 350 first innings we've **** all chance second.

We can win this, but those three wickets need to go quick sharp.

it does look like england have blown it with that quick 2 wicket haul not registering and Mathews looking like a century now. lead now 230 odd?

The way the Sri Lankans are batting I will be hopeful that we can overhaul them in our second innings so long as the pitch behaves itself! Saying that, Cook really needs to step up to the plate! Time is ticking against him and he just has to deliver! <ok>

i reckon its already too late. yesterday the short bowling was disastrous.... can anyone tell me if we are pitching it up there nwo or have reverted to trying to hit sri lankans on the head with bouncers.

Sri Lanka are now well on top! Their tail has wagged!

We will be batting to save the game and I reckon that a declaration just after Tea will put Sri Lanka well into pole position!

yeah i think certainly if the weather is right for ti sri lanka may as well go for the win with a late declaration tonight and skittle cook out at least.

disappointing given how dodgy the pitch looked when our tial played and then ten mins later it looks perfect for battle.

I agree MITO in as much as we have overused the short pitched stuff when we should jhave concentrated on line and length! Hardly any variation in our bowling has made us look pretty ordinary!

I thought yesterday that jordan looked like he had a bit about him but then broad and plunkett were at the same. If there's one thing Anderson and broad can do is bowl line and length and extract movement out of the ball.

It took moeen to break the sri lankans yesterday and today i though plunkett picthed it up for the wickets? But right now i'd love to knwo what the f we are doing again cos i cant' see
