Gerrard as completely lost the plot over the Redknapp story: why was he ever picked as captain? He obviously can't the pressures of captaincy, playing under pressure, motivating the team or dealing with the press: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/27969231 He needs to shut up and retire before heaping further humiliation on English football.
Gerrard wanting to name and shame players who did not want to play for England. That's the way for a captain to unite a team.
... so you think it's OK then? ... not wanting to play for your country? ... on another thread you've asked why this World Cup is so good ... i'd say primarily because of the passion of those that DO want to play for their countries and put that before personal reward, ego and bling ... ... e.g the Iranians (many of whom are amateurs) giving everything against the Argies, and not in a purely negative way (like Roy's England against Italy in the Euros) but also damn near winning it by attacking on the break with purpose and commitment ... Ghana against Germany, the Chileans and Columbians period ... For the majority of football fans in the World the national team is still far more important than individual club loyalty ...
Ok. He states that he doesn't believe they are part of the current squad and England are out so I can't see how it matters now. If there are players in this squad that want to dodge games then surely as England fans you'd want them out of the squad?
So you don't think 'Arry should name and shame them? Gerrard was right to call 'Arry's bluff, if he ain't lying they should be named.
Why didnt Gerrard play v Uruguay? Probably faked an injury. Compare that to the Uruguayan number 4, gerrardi and it begs the question... is Gerrard on 'arrys list?
Players should want to play for their country, no doubt about that, but England rarely have tantalizing groups in qualifying rounds so why would a Spurs player want to travel all the way to the likes of San Marino just to sit on the bench?
This. Maybe if Gerrard concentrated on his on-field job than getting involved in this, England would not be out of the World Cup.
Our defence (and I'm not just on about the back four - although they are crap) has been one of the poorest on show during this World Cup ... they should be made to watch the Iranian display against Argentina over and over - a 'team' fully committed throughout who came damn close to an enormous shock ... defending stoutly en masse but also breaking forward at pace, creating numerous very good chances and being unlucky not to have been given what looked a stone walled penalty... did their country proud and won the heart's of every neutral ... now that is what football is really about.
Yep. Had world class defenders JT and Ash been there, we would not have conceded soft goals v Italy and Uruguay most likely.... and still have a chance of qualifying
