well 30 years of hurt is now up to 48 and counting . Im not convinced hes the man for the job . . His style too old fashioned . A younger , more adaptable coach is needed. get radical ...... Make some real changes . Drop some , nailed on for the last 10 years , starters .
Not sure if we had the players for this World Cup group. Sterling was the shining light and will continue to improve over the next two years. I don't think we played badly against Italy and we weren't terrible against Uruguay, they were both just a bit better than us. Another manager might be disruptive. Maybe give Roy another chance to bring in some new players and develop the team? Not sure at all though
I don't think Roy did much wrong to be honest. He went to this tournament with a fresh young squad which is what people had been asking for. The front line looked good and Sterling, Sturridge and Welbeck were pretty lively. It was a positive looking outfit after years of cautious and unimaginative football. We weren't terrible against Italy or Uruguay, the defending could have been better. But I think whichever manager is at England they will have the same set of issues to deal with, which is that we just don't have world beating players at our disposal.
I predict Beckham will be the manager to succeed Roy Hodgson after 2016!! Just think the FA will be radical in their next appointment. They need to show some imagination.
the F.A , ...........radical . lets just read that again , The F. A , ...Radical ........... nope , im just not making that connection .
Pretty much agree with all that! The truth is that both Cahill and Jagielka are poor CB'S and to say they are the best we have is summing up the situation perfectly. Hart looked shaky in both games which can't help the rest of the defence. We played well against Italy, and we should have got the draw against Uruguay. The problem goes much deeper than being 'modern', or 'fashionable', the problems are that the English players are not raised in the right way, technically, mentally, or in terms of game intelligence. Against Uruguay, all that had been achieved against Italy was lost because they sat deep and were ultra organised; the problem is that the English players never moved off the ball, they pretty much waited for ball to feet, which meant that no space developed. Sterling trued to run at them, but with no movement from his teammates hit dead ends.
I don't think you can call Cahill a poor Centreback. Chelsea have the best defensive record in the league. For me Glenn Johnson is overated and Baines and Jagielka couldn't handle the pressure. Roy is a nice bloke but he's old school. England need someone with a good understanding of the modern game.
He is a poor CB for me! Looks ok when he has someone marshalling him for the entire game, but without it he loses his positional sense; its the world cup, and if you have to have someone there holding your hand then you don't deserve your spot for me! Johnson had a shocking season for Liverpool, Baines was poor (except for a brief spell at the start of the second half of the Uruguay game), and Jagielka was not up to it. I don't feel anyone could have done better with this crop of players; played better than Italy, could have got a point vs Uruguay. Now, whether Hodgson is the best for going on in the future, I am not so sure, but what are the realistic alternatives? I would have said Gary Neville; his punditry shows he knows the game, yet is he someone who can only see the problems after the fact, or before? Judging by the way we have conceded at this world cup I am not so sure? He obviously knows his stuff as evidenced in this clip on your defeat to Everton, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O4WWTYbKpOU
You are talking absolute nonsense. Costa Rica have progressed with full points and their star men have been a 20 year old Arsenal youth prospect and a Fulham reserves player. England have a better well of talent than most the squads in this World Cup. We have multiple league and Champions league winners. Just about every England first team player is playing for their club side ahead of multiple talented players from all over the globe. I could do a squad comparison with most international sides - where the players play and what thy have won. England would come out very favourably. The truth is they are just a bunch of under performing premadonnas.
England can't and won't be successful whoever manages the team. Football in England is built around Sky and the premier league, Sky wouldn't give a **** if there wasn't an Englishmen playing at all so long as people pay their £50 a month and they're able to sell the games around the world. A complete overhaul is needed, that would take 10-15 years and the co-operation of everyone involved in the game, so it's not going to happen. 'Arry confirmed today that some Tottenham players asked him to get them out of England games when he was Manager there, so with attitudes like that what chance does any England Manager have ?
Apparently Gerrard went mental today and demanded that Redknapp named the Spurs shirkers. I reckon Dawson was one of them and to be fair you have say, that is a blessing in disguise
The 'truth' is probably somewhere between the two to be honest. The likes of Cahill, Hart, even Gerrard may have won honours, but they would be way down the list in terms of value to the team if you were to ask their own fans. Cahill would possibly be one of the last of the first eleven. You also need to offset talent, against expectation. Whilst Costa Rica have 'punched above their weight' they have no expectations or pressure, whilst England have the opposite; take you for example, two games in which we played better than one of the opposition, and another in which possibly we were equal, and you are immediately lambasting Hodgson as not being good enough. This is despite most admitting before the tournament it was a transitional period and we would do well to get through the group. That's pressure! Also Rooney who is hated by most fans other than his own at Utd!! The players do have massive inflated egos, but that is only one part of it; expectation, pressure, technique, mentality, education or game intelligence are also a big part of the overall picture. The truth is that whilst some of our players do have multiple honours, they are not the major players at their clubs, and often rely on their overseas teammates to provide the quality; Suarez at Liverpool, Aguero, Toure, Silva at City, Hazard, Oscar etc.... when it comes down to it, the skill level in technique lets us down every time, as does the mentality of the English players, something Hodgson can only control or change to an extent.
I agree with this and find it a bit ironic that on other threads we are seeing strong calls to bring in overseas talent at the cost of our own youngsters. If the FA are serious about getting an English team to win the world cup they should work with the Premier League and start restricting the number of foreign players in a tem. If the money is more important then lets get some honesty(!) into the game. As for 'Arry's comments, I'm with Gerrard - he should name and shame or shut up.
