I would give my eye teeth to be a jouno at the Peeters RD press conference tomorrow. Some hard questions now need asking. As someone else pointed out, we currently have 17 players on the books and there looks more chance of me watching an episode of The Only Way is Essex than Charltonsigning some Brits under Roly. The Yoni loan is a joke to soften up the imminent departure of Poyet.
If there is a bright side to losing Poyet it's that there's a good chance he'll be replaced by someone that has more goals in him... Not hard. The down side is we lose a fantastic defensive midfielder, whose value is going to rise to hell of a lot more than what we get for him now...
Yes we will lose a promising player if Poyet leaves but it will be HIS choice if he leaves. He has been given a decent contract offer to stay.
we dont know whats been offered to him. only him, his agent and charlton know whats been offered. my guessing is, one of them will tell you its a "decent offer" because they want to be seen to be doing the right thing. the diego poyet saga is going to be the breaking point for me. the douche has come in and said that he's going to improve on the youth setup and make our money that way. he has let this one slide as he probably see's poyet as a CP type player - a fans favourite. there is no room for this type of player in his regime. this stupidity will eventually cost us millions as poyet under contract is already worth a few million. if this business man is willing to take such a loss to rid himself of the past setup then he aint a very good business man. if poyet was given a start under riga, i reckon his contract would be sown up already.
I don't entirely blame Roly for the Poyet situation. Admittedly he hasn't given Diego any reason to feel loyalty towards the club, showing no loyalty himself towards JR, but Poyet should have been offered a good contract before he was given his first-team debut, because after that the cat was out of the bag, and every Tom Dick and 'Arry knew how good he is.
Poyet is too good for Charlton. He can get much more money and better career development elsewhere. His father will know that and Diego is probably mature enough to know that too. If he signs for Charlton, all he would be doing is sharing with the repulsive Duchâtelet money that he could keep for himself. He signed for Charlton because his father knew that Powell and (particularly) Hart would bring him on the right way. He has seen Hart leave and Powell and Riga badly treated, What reason has he got to stay? I see him going to a big club like Arsenal, Man United, Barcelona or Real Madrid. Possibly then being loaned out for a year. I cannot see any advantage for them in loaning him back to Charlton who are, to put it kindly, an unknown package next season as to performance and pattern of play. (Or to put it less kindly, a trainwreck and League laughing stock in prospect). He would have left whoever owned, and who ever managed, the team, Maybe they could have got more money for him though if everything had been done right. There is no way this club is in a position to make him a "decent offer". If we could not afford to pay Kerrnorgant or Dervite enough to stay and could not compete with Bournemouth or Bolton, how can we afford to compete with world class clubs for Poyet?
Poyet can't be leaving because of money, after all, cash rich Charlton have just spent over one million euros signing Igor.
But he was messed around earlier in the season. Now I have no idea how he feels about that, but I can see it leaving a sour taste in his mouth and it doesn't exactly make the new approach seem professional.
Diego knew that Sir Chris had trust in him and it also seemed to me that Diego liked (and trusted) playing for JR, that trust has been lost now and Diego (just like the rest of us) can not know if Bob the builder is any good or not! He probably doesn't want to play in a side which may be fighting relegation again so I wouldn't blame him in looking for pastures new
Don't blame him either, but if he'd been offered a contract which matched his ability BEFORE the outside world saw it at least we'd be getting a good fee for him. I'd guess there would have been much better chance of him signing it then, before it became clear there were more attractive options. He could probably have written his own get-out clause.
Diego was happy to sign up months back, as I mentioned on here. The club then seemed to hold off on contracts when it became a distinct possibility we could be relegated (and two managers realised the January recruits weren't able to assist). To me, as disappointed as I would be to see him leave, pretty much pulling a contract offer away previously showed a lack of respect and would raise serious questions in your mind - a level of trust would have been broken. I hope he's playing hard ball in a bid to show the club his worth, but I don't think that's in his character. The best we can hope for now is that he remains in England so we can get some compensation, and that further down the line he merits a huge transfer fee so we get a sell on.
Talks were held with KM, and apparently when left in her hands it never progressed further. Sounded like a breakdown in communication between the UK and Belgium and the words used were ''it wasn't signed off''.
Well I was told it, and spoke with someone via PM who said they had heard similar, which is why I put it up on here. Between TJ and MS & RD they have messed up. We should be knocking on that door every day until he signs with us, or somebody else.
Just seen the following Tweet on #CAFC "Charlton offer £750,000 for Preston striker Joe Garner" Actually, I made that up. But even the thought of it under RD is laughable. How about David Nugent? Or Martin Waghorn? Millwall have just taken a punt on a young British striker from the lower leagues. Why don't we ever seem to do the same ? The "vision" stinks. It makes me angry just thinking about it.
