So he's done it once at Chelsea given a BILLION pound investment in the squad. Compare that five FA cup trophies, three league titles and two doubles on a fraction of the budget that Wenger has had. Mourinho would be **** for England because he doesn't know how to manage a team without massive financial resources to back him up.
You have a very short memory it seems. Not too long ago Jose Mourinho was a European champion with a Porto side. The majority of football fans over here had barely heard of any of their players. The reason he spends big now at big clubs is because of his success. So he CAN manage a team without huge financial resources.
To be a true great at managerial or club level you have to have a European Cup under your belt. Neither Wenger or Arsenal have reached such heights. Quite harsh really because you were so, so close in Paris. Close but no cigar! Still, looking on the bright side, at least Ash managed to get his hands on it.
Why? His core strengths are man management and tactics. If anything, it has been proven that Wenger cannot succeed on his budget. Failing for eight years in a row. Mourinho took Inter to the treble with a smaller wage bill and low transfer budget, Milito, the equivalent of Giroud up top Similarly He took UD Leiria into a CL spot on a much smaller budget that Wnger. They have a 5k capacity and one back in div 3 You can't buy team spirit and a winning mentality as Wenger found out with £40m ozil
He was very successful at Chelsea, two leagues, three cups and two CL semis. He took full advantage of his resources, breaking the duopoly, making Chelsea the most dominant side in PL history, 2004-6, smashing records never to be beaten. Football is subject to chance. In 2006/7 season, if the games were replayed who knows, Chelsea may have beaten Liverpool and won the the European Cup and not beaten Arsenal 2-1 in the League Cup final. Jose's CL record is superb: 8 CL semis, two wins in ten seasons. If he stays with us for three seasons, we'll have a good chance of lifting Chelsea's second European Cup. If he carries on managing til he is 60, he should retire with around four European Cups. I'm hopeful we'll get to the final next season as I've put flights on hold for Berlin via Dusseldorf on Avios!!
Recreate what exactly? He's had 3 full seasons at Chelsea and won 2 league titles, an F A Cup & a league cup. Additionally, 3 European semi finals shows he's knocking on the door. I'd be very concerned if he'd spent nearly two decades at Chelsea yet still never won the European Cup but some seem to find that acceptable dependent on whether it is a Wenger in / Wenger out week. Ashley Cole's won the European Cup. Despite 16 attempts, (14 managed by the specialist) the Gooners have failed miserably.
As this is thread is kind of England related... Lampard set to start and captain England tomorrow. I suspect this will be his last cap. Gerrard on the bench, where he should have been all tournament! Well over a 100 caps, well done frank!
My son and I were discussing this yesterday after seeing his interview. We both said the same, and he definitely should have had some game time already.
Bit in bold is just utter nonsense as he HAS done it. You are basically saying Mourinho isn't very good because he didn't win a European cup at all of his clubs
He was backtracking after his other stupid post, "Mourinho would be **** for England because he doesn't know how to manage a team without massive financial resources to back him up." He obviously forgot about U.D. Leiria, Porto. Even Inter had less financial resources than Wenger at Arsenal, but won the treble after swapping Ibra for Eto, Pandev and Motta. Jose is a serial winner, Arsene is a serial failure these days. With Arsenal's stability and talented players, Jose would have won a couple of leagues and maybe a Euro Cup too
This. Infact he has been more successful at clubs where has had less financial backing. What he achieved at Porto and Inter far eclipses anything he did at Chelsea and Real imo. So PISKIE, as usual, is talking BS.
If they did a poll of top managers in the world, Jose would be on every list, Wenger would make some but not all. Jose's record can pretty much only be matched by Pep and even he has yet to win European cups with multiple clubs.
That's why I'm asking why he hasn't been able to recreate his early successes at Real or Chelsea, despite being given enormous resources to do so.
