Met Paul McG tonight and reminded him that it is 20 yrs and 3 days since that famous win over Italy in Giants Stadium. I was there with my Dad looking down at Paul giving a master class. Class Gent who has had his problems over the years and still gives the time to chat with ould ****e heads like me! A gent, our Paul.
Always time to stop and chat if he is ever around the town. He is up there with Paul McShane as a true great...
Im a massive disciple of his... absolute class as a player and a man Modelled my whole game around him and Paul Parker.... Sheer genius & that why i appreciate Dunne and Ned EDIT: neve forget that laying down lbow at the WC...
I remember standing in the Loft where I now sit and watching him in the the early nineties playing against us. He was a real class act and would've made a great partnership with Macca.
Agree with you Corker. He is a real decent lad from Drimnagh. I was lucky enough to have him in my taxi a couple of years back. Really shy lad. His wife/GF/partner from Wexford is a very nice lady. He offered me way over the actual fare. I was thrilled to have him in my car so I gave him a discounted fare. No wonder I'm always broke.
His autobiography is a terribly sad read. Lovely guy obviously but with demons. Tough to read about the impact of drink on his life and how he neglected his children as a result.
A colossus in defence, hard tackling, no nonsense footballer of the old style. Trouble is, he'd be red carded after 5 minutes these days, more's the pity.
He is from Keeper Road in Drimnagh. Yes, he played for Pats. They called him the black pearl of Inchicore when he was there.

Confident? Not sure if confidence is the word. I think we have as good a chance as anybody. Yes, this appears to be a bit of a decent generation of young players but there are two things that make me cautious. The first is, between 1984 and 2010 (26 years), Dublin won only one All-Ireland. The second thing to remember is that we only beat Mayo by a single point in the final last year and in the semi final, with a minute and a half to go, Kerry led us by a point. Therefore, I would NEVER take any All-Ireland for granted. They are all hard earned. The team that wins it in September tend to be the best. Let's see who that team is this year.
