Some suggestions that the fee is £7m up front with £1m add-ons. Anyone else think that seems just a little too much?
Great news. Even if it's 5 or 6 million he's settled here, has good connections to our other players (particularly Huddlestone) and fits well. Shows great drive and determination when he plays. Strengthen our fullback positions after, another centre back and a pacey, creative attacking right sided midfielder and we're set. Would like to see Nathan Redmond join after the Livermore deal is sealed.
It's great we've agreed a fee and I should expect the rest to be formality. We do seem to end paying high then maybe we should for players. Ehab's lack of footballing experience?
This is excellent news! Jake fits superbly well in the squad and the midfield and is a fantastic age to have his best years and improve with us. Spurs probably weren't gonna sell on the cheap after realising £5.25m for Huddlestone was a steal.
Is it overpaying though? TV money for the Premier League is insane now, with even the 20th team getting over £60m, and that will be reflected in both wage demands and transfer fees. Agents and clubs know that teams get more money so demands increase. When you look at the money some teams spent last season (£9m or more for the wolf's willy, £12m for Mitroglu etc.), £7m isn't exactly huge. Relatively it's less than the £5m we paid for Bullard before, and it's for a player who's still young, coming into his prime and has no injury issues. We pay £7m for a player who's likely sign a 3 year deal and get stability. If we continue improving each season he could potentially be here for the next 7 years, making that £7m small fry over a long timeframe. If we do happen to go down he'd be an ideal player to help us get back up, but would also be the sort to be in demand and retain transfer value. If he plays brilliantly and attracts bigger clubs... well, we've seen the prices paid for the likes of Downing, and the transfer fees suggested for Southampton's English players.
Yes, but unless he turns dog turd we should be able to get most of it back or even make a profit. Also, as we’re a small top flight club and we don’t have that much quality wanting to join us, we’re probably ripe for getting stiffed on fees. But, considering our fees for Hudd, Davies et al, maybe a little over payment here and there just balances out. If we broke even/ made a profit last year that also stands us in good stead too just another wave of TV cash splashes in
Not really. Nobody knows what the actual fee is for sure but it could well cost the club far more in the long run if we did not pay what Spurs want. Levy does drive a hard bargain with all clubs not just us.
think we have paid over the odds I think £6million more near what we've paid , plus reports in the press had crystal places and dqpr waiting to see what panned out, with array and his cheque book waiting in the shadow's the price was bound to be inflated.
It will only get worse. The next set of PL overseas rights is due to be increased soon and that will improve income for the PL clubs more so. Let us be a part of this sillyness. But make sure that we keep some back for when it all ends. ?
Looks to me like we've been trying to get a good deal, Tottenham have hoped to rip us off, and we've realised we need a big signing and some positive PR so we've just decided to pay the asking price. That also explains why we've formally announced that we've agreed a fee.
