Hamilton is certainly more confident looking, but to use Hamiltons own term of phrase, Rosberg just seems more hungry :s

Alonso with Ferrari upgrades? Imagine if Williams had consistency ffs, could have been best of the rest.

Its all in sector three for Rosberg. Rosberg has a higher top speed so perhaps Hamilton is running more downforce yet not loosing time on the straights and slow corners or S1 and S2.

Austrian GP: Rosberg thinks he can match Hamilton in qualifying

Nico Rosberg believes he can eradicate Mercedes Formula 1 team-mate Lewis Hamilton's Austrian Grand Prix practice advantage by the time they fight for pole on Saturday.

Mercedes dominated again in Friday practice on F1's return to the Red Bull Ring, with Hamilton four tenths of a second clear of Rosberg in the quicker afternoon session.

But Rosberg does not think that gap means Hamilton has an edge this weekend.

"It was there in Montreal also, but when it came to qualifying I was right where he is," he said.

"I need to work hard tonight for sure and find some more lap time.

"It's so close between us. I'm hoping we still have the edge on everyone else, it seems to be the case today, so it's going to be between us for pole and it's very important because race pace is going to be close and to get first into the first corner is a huge advantage."

Rosberg denied that seemingly heated comments to Mercedes on the radio were a sign of him feeling under pressure due to Hamilton's practice pace.

"I was cool as a cucumber - no tension!" he said.

"Just working through everything and trying to optimise everything for tomorrow. There were a few things that weren't ideal so just pushing on to sort everything out."

Hamilton also preferred not to read anything into his Friday margin.

"I'm sure Nico has some time in his pocket," he said. (END)

This race should be interesting especially with Alonso's Ferrari seeming to be working much better. and being that much closer to the front runners. I am sure Rosberg will study Hamilton's telemetry overnight as he implied in the article and he will come back stronger. That's one of the downsides of the two leaders in a championship driving for the same team, they can go through each other's data and see where to improve. Overall through, only (one) Ferrari and (both) Williams seem to be doing quite well. I am happy to see Vettel in front of his junior teammate for a change... I dont know long long that will last though. McLaren....hmmmmm. Button complaining as usual. This teams for the last few years has been bringing upgrades after upgrades and not much seems to be changing...well they are a little better this time out but overall not a whole lot especially after all the promise from the tests before the season started. I hate to see a good driver like Grosjean struggling down at the bottom so much, after last year he really deserves better...I feel quite sorry for him.

Yes, he looks strong, but he sounded quite irritable on the team radio which is quite unusual for him.. is that a sign he is feeling the pressure? He said he was as cool as a cucumber and there was no tension...it didnt sound that way, Rosberg sounded quite upset. I dont know, but it sounded quite unlike him.

I don't like the idea of data sharing. If one of drivers has an advantage in practice with setup then it's easy for his team mate to claw back some time. I find it a little unfair.

I'll be surprised if every team shares data like Mercedes do.

I'd be surprised if any sensible team didn't. The teams are in it for themselves, a team result. Why would they concentrate on a WDC rather than the WCC?

Ferrari run split practices, Red Bull have often talked about Vettel and Ricciardo sharing data, McLaren put everything into a computer and remove common sense probably and so on <ok>

I get your point, it does make sense to do it. However, Mercedes will win the WCC before Abu Dhabi and I wouldn't be surprised to see them stop the data sharing and let the drivers be independent for the remainder of the season.

It will be worth watching if Nico and Lewis fight. Or if Williams can do something.
