Chelsea do try. They are just rubbish at it. Foreign players are good for English football.

Us and Southampton are the current England team producers.

I agree... In moderation. By having the best of the world come to England- the English players that DO make it have more experience playing against the best. I do believe to become the best you have to play against the best.

The problem is- for all the Suarezes playing in England there are two or three Cissokos. Top foreign talent playing in England- good for English football. Mediocre foreign talent playing in England- not good for English football. I think a balance of about 40% foreign/ 60% domestic would be an ideal blend and get the best out of English players... give plenty of experience to English players and give them a chance to shine... but still have a large number of the world's best foreigners to compete against and cut your teeth against.

Chelsea try?? When? The last one they produced and is in the main squad is Terry. They initially bought Cahill as he was English and they needed English players.
Foreign footballers are great for English Football and I'm not saying we should ban foreign players, thats insane. But think their is a responsibility to try and encourage British youths through the ranks instead of just buying.

Also British players are overpriced as good ones a rarity, so we need more in order to bring the price down.

milk is right. there's a flood in. very very few English lads go foreign to try and develop. i think they are way over paid at 16, 17,18...

40/60 would be quite healthy. someone mentioned germany earlier. i wonder whats the break down of players there.

I mean lets face it whether its hodgson or not for euros in two years what'l the team be like?

    Hart, forester are ok.
    right full looks a mess.
Left full for me looks ok but theres not so many options
CB looks awfully limited in options.
CM looks utterly bereft. I think barkely is very attacking but that put him in an almost oyung gerrard or gazza role not genuine CM. Cleverly? henderosn? whilshire?
Wings are ok but thats cos all we make are runners like ox, walcott, sterling. we make fast runners not technicians
Striker... sturridge was awful last night. welbeck.. LAMBERT.. carroll. its not pretty

I would have to say that unless soemthing changes and a golden generation emerges in the next 2 years out of academys across the prem we are looking at bad results again

I did a google. Bundesliga is 50% domestic per minute played (in 2013)... not found 2014 data.
La Liga in Spain has the 40/60 split. - with 60% being domestic. This current cup aside, they've been pretty fantastic... and still producing some of the best talent.

30% i rememrb that article actually.

One theory may be tv distribution puts so much cash in small clubs hands they fill up with foreign boys.

Also Cardiff and swansea automatically drop numbers as they develop welsh sheep botherers.

Very few nations are filled with stars.

Some of our players could get in Brazil's team ahead of Fred and Hulk.

chile have 3... all up front...

spain have.... frnace have, germany have... are we a top 8 side in europe and world or no? once you take rooney out there are zero stars currently.

who of that lot will be a big star in 2 years though? someone has to step up.

We've got players like Barkley, Sterling, Flanagan and Ox still to really come through.

Barkley is working on becoming a star. Sturidge might earn that label if he has a few more seasons like this one. Same with Sterling. A lot of hope is being placed on Luke Shaw. Everton have another future England star in John Stones too! Henderson hasn't been great for England- but is becoming better all the time for us. Welbeck has done well for England.

I suspect in 2 years England will be a better team than they are now if some of the older players retire after the world cup- and let the new generation move in... we do have some promising youngsters.

For some reason, most of them go either the way of wilshere (selfsatisfied immature tool) or carrick (mellow blunt tool).

    Oxlade-Chamberlain is a player I really like.

Flanagan is the kind of fighter England could use.

How about some uncapped young players? Wisdom? Hughes?

Tiago Ilori is eligible for England (born in London, moved to Portugal aged 3). Scouting some talent like that could do us a lot of good.
