I thought England played well and perhaps deserved to get a point from the match. The Italian 'keeper was superb as was Pirlo, who didn't put a foot wrong the whole match (IMO). I think England's loss and Italy's win came down to the effectiveness (and ineffectiveness) of two players: Pirlo and Rooney. Sterling and Welbeck were quite good, but Rooney's inability to make things happen cost England the points. Costa Rica and The Netherland's wins were surprising, as was Japan's ugly loss. Those cost me points in the office pool. Predicting 2-1 for Germany v Port. 0-1 for USA over Ghana, but I confess I have very little confidence in the USA squad. 2-0 for Nigeria over Iran
Oh my!! 31 seconds and now a goal in each of the last three World Cups. And here is Dempsey's goal -
That's more or less what I said to Mrs Captain as we watched him score. I'm still pleased for your namesake though, DR.
For all of his tepid performances for us this season, I'm still somewhat happy he came back. He had the balls to man up to the way he left us and whilst it's true that you should never go back, at least now I can remember the good times with Clint rather than the summer he left.
And my eldest got to meet his favourite ever Fulham player at the club shop signing session in February.
More Fulham mentions this evening as Rafik Halliche and Algeria give the much vaunted Belgian team a fright. please log in to view this image Link to pic: http://ts3.mm.bing.net/th?id=HN.607993191194364578&pid=15.1
Did I notice Andranik Teymourian in the Iran team the other night? Another blink-and-you-miss-it Fulham career playing in this World Cup.
So far in the WC I've seen: Dempsey (same as always) Mitroglou (sub) Karagounis (sub) Dejagah (same as always) Ruiz (useless as ever) Teymourian Halliche Not a bad showing for current and former Fulhamites. I think, like most people, I was surprised to see Spain go out. Brazil, too, looks quite ordinary and the Dutch weren't very impressive against Australia. So now I'm reshuffling my final four: Italy | Germany | Argentina | Columbia At this point, Germany looks the strongest team of the lot.
I remember watching Gary Brazil at the Cottage in the 90s. I keep hearing 'Brazil' being mentioned - could it possibly be same one?
Half time Suarez 1 England 0, very disappointed so far. Our 2 full backs oh dear, less said, lets hope that the second half gives us some goals. and a victory, as my season is going from bad to worse.

It looks as though Kostas Mitroglouâs World Cup may be over, after only 52 minutes - please log in to view this image Link to pic: http://cache4.asset-cache.net/gc/45...sFCGu5X41yVFE8McS73NdMht0nAq/Uaqh51SgjKp/WQ== Frankly he didnât look as though his heart was in it and Iâm inclined to agree with the, alleged, comment made last night by Brede Hangeland on his ex-Fulham team mate, to Norwegian TV2: "he's too slow, too heavy, too lazy" [for English football]
Oh My! Costas one up against Italy. Bryan with a header and here it is -
And after 9 minutes v France, here comes .... Philippe please log in to view this image Link to pic: http://ts4.mm.bing.net/th?id=HN.608038249700918383&pid=15.1 Oh, well 9 minutes later doesn't look good for said Philippe and his Swiss mates.
He's not a Fulham player anymore though. And as for Ruiz, what a massive tool the man is. When he goes, and hopefully we will get a good few million for him, he will go down as my least favourite Fulham player ever, and by some distance.
As usual, you are happy to dish out inappropriate invective. I'm sure you'd have a good cry, were I to point out that it is in fact you who are the "tool" and Ruiz, who will be playing in the knockout stages, rather than your England heroes.
